You don't need NAV or traffic anymore since there is a free GPS app for Android phones called Waze that shows traffic jams and gives alternate routes. It also shows where cops have been reported to be hiding along the highway!

I called XM up last night to cancel as my 6 months for $24 deal was about to run out. They gave me the same old song and dance as to why I was leaving to which I said that I rarely ever use it (unless of course to listen to the Jason Ellis show). First they offered a 12 month deal for $96 to which I said that's more than I'm willing to spend. Then they said 6 months for $48 and I was like huh??? That's the same monthly price as the 12 month deal. Finally she supposedly went back to her manager and got me another special offer of 5 months for $26 so I took it. Guess I have until January now to call them back up and play the same game again.
My "trial" subscription (new vehicle) supposedly expired July 27, yet I'm still getting XM. Any idea how long it is after your "trial" period ends before you're forced to pay??
You're not really forced to pay. After the free trial ends they are supposed to shut off your account if you don't renew. I waited until my free trial ended to see if I was one of the lucky ones like on here that could still get a signal but sure enough one day I turned on my radio and it was dead.
I received a discounted renewal plan in the mail a few weeks later so I signed back up. They told me to go drive around a bit right after I reactivated and my radio picked up the signal again.

Mine cut off right when the trial expired... seems I heard someone else had this same thing where the trial didn't end. Oh... socco earlier commented that "2 years later, my XM still works and I've never had a subscription...."
Just count your blessings and head on down the road I guess! :biggrin2:

A few people on the forum claim that theirs never shut off after the trial period. Don't expect to be so lucky-mine took a week or so after the trial to shut down. XM then started calling me nonstop, pestering me to renew. The 7th or 8th guy that called finally was smart enough to understand that I already have a portable XM radio that I planned on using instead of the built in unit. The calls finally stopped after he agreed to remove me from the call list.

Just called to cancel my subscription since I did not want it to auto-renew at their normal rate.
They offered me an additional year of XM Radio with the Navtraffic for $86.
They also offered to remove my credit card info after this charge, and informed me that next year I will receive a bill in the mail instead.
Easiest call with them I've ever had...only took 15 minutes....

As expected, when my freebie had about a month left the phone calls and junk mail started showing up. For about two weeks I either had a call, mail or both from them. IIRC, the best offer was $60/yr. I finally ordered them to place me on their do-not-call list and not to call me again. I still receive XM mail about once a week but at least the calls have stopped.
I know people enjoy XM but I don't like the sound quality caused by the compression they use. I'm an audiophile (read VERY picky) and I'm replacing the entire sound system with an almost competition quality system. Besides 99% of my listening is MP3 (I can fit over 3000 songs and bunches of play lists on a 32G thumb drive @ 256K sampling rate) so why do I need XM or even FM for that matter.

I'm one of those that got in on the lifetime subscription. I bought a new Tundra back in 07 that had XM, and paid what was then effectively 3 years worth (+/- $275 I believe). Now, about 6 years later, I'll be transferring it to my 4Runner for a $75 fee. I called and verified that I could do it, and sure enough, no problem. I guess I'll get my money's worth if SiriusXM is still broadcasting this time next year. Anything past that is gravy.

Just called today... They quoted me 6 months for 29.99 + fees.... came out to like $35.

I dont midn having the XM radio but I probably will not renew it when its over. I have a lifetime Sirius subscription on a portable radio that I may just get a car kit for and mount it somewhere in my '12 SR5, I tried swapping the boxes in my Scion tC that I had before the T4R, and after I bought everything to make the Sirius radio work in the tC, I found out that they were going to charge me and extra $175 to switch the subscription to the new radio. :O So I said screw it and just got a car kit for it and used it as a portable one.
Even though XM and Sirius are now the same company they still use different transmission methods. XM uses a few satellites that transmit to ground repeater stations, so with XM the signal may not be any better than with a normal AM or FM radio station depending on how far you are from your nearest ground station, and in my area there are quite a few "dead spots" with XM.
Sirius on the other hand uses solely satellites, and has more of them to transmit the signals across North America, so there aren't any dead spots that Ive found with my Sirius radio, and I drove from Bellingham WA to Central FL 2 years ago when I got transferred. When I was stationed in SE Alaska on the USCG Cutter Liberty, we used Sirius on the boat as well and the majority of SE AK is very remote and we never found anywhere where we lost signal.

Do a search, someone transferred in a SIrius module and is now using their lifetime plan, IIRC.

Yeah, I know how to do it and what parts I would need, but I'm not to keen on having to pay an extra $175 to transfer my lifetime subscription from the radio that its now to another radio.
