XM - Recent Renewals?

I must have been marked, as I received several periodic mailings reminding me exactly when my subscription was going to run out. Of course they were offering me a 1, 2, or 3 year package deal. However, I was enjoying XM so much, I just signed up for a lifetime subscription. I was really interested in only the music, but at the time the XM Everything lifetime subscription was cheaper than any of the other lifetime packages.
How much?
My parents' free trial on their Rav just expired and dad wants it for the beach trip we're doing in July. Any advice on how to make it happen?
Mine is due to expire on July 2nd, but I haven't received anything about it, so I'm hoping it will just keep going through our vacation so I can listen to the 3rd place WC10 match on the drive down.

When I subscribed in April, it was $461 + change (royalties included). You could break that out up to 5 payments. That was the price for a lifetime subscription for the XM Everything package.

That sounds like a decent enough price, but I'm always leery of anything 'lifetime.' Cars change hands, life happens, and Internet radio is beginning to make its way into autos now, though it will be a few years before Toyota jumps on it.

That is 5.24 years of getting the annual rate of $88 (assuming they continue that special). If you plan on keeping the car ten years, and XM can stay in business that long, then it's worth the up front money.
I'm with dekeman on this though. Too many variables to commit to lifetime. With other radio technologies like Pandora improving and 4g being rolled out, who knows what the next big thing is.
Yep. The plan is to keep the car for quite some time (well over 5 years). If something should happen to change those plans, then the lifetime susbscription just may be a selling point worth a bit extra. As long as XM stays in business and doesn't cut the stations that I like, then I should be happy for quite some time. I'm not one to immediately jump on the latest technology changes, usually opting to wait a few years for the market to settle (and prices to drop).
i keep getting offers in the mail and I keep chucking them in the trash, after the issues I had with them last year.
I use slacker radio on my BB and stream it through the truck more than i liked XM radio. way less commercials, and I like the music thats on it better.
plus i've still got a plethora of CD's if i want to listen to something, and my IPOD. I think i'm good and can save that cash for something elsewhere.

Did that include NAV? Did you get a NAV quote?
My XM receiver went to the preview channel by 1 pm the day after the trial ran out. Unfortunately, that was halfway between Houston and San Antonio, so we had to do without XM for a few days. Renewed today, but wasn't able to get any deals, not helped by having better things to do with my time than argue with the person on the other end of the phone.

I was able to renew mine at the $77/year rate that these kinds folks have mentioned (thank you so much!), 7 days until my trial is up. The guy I talked to (Eric) didn't even complain when I just asked him if I could renew at that promotional rate. Good luck to those of you renewing.
Just renewed mine for the 5 month / $20 deal. They also had the 12 month / $77 deal available as well. All you have to do is simply ask for which ever one you want and they will hook you up. I did not give any kind of promo code.
A bit of a heads up: call them on the 1-800-996-7900 line to speak with a person here in the USA that can make these deals. If you call in on there normal line you will be speaking with someone from India... and well good luck with that!

I'm just barely into the free 3-month trial on XM, but I know that with Sirius you can transfer a lifetime subscription to different units 3 times, so if you sell your car or portable player, you're not out that $400+, you just transfer it to your new vehicle's unit.
I'm not that fond of XM after having Sirius for quite a few years now, but we talked to Sirius a few days ago and they said that XM/Sirius will be merging all their billing, etc at the end of this year so for those of you with Sirius annual subscriptions on portable devices, you will then be able to transfer your subscription to your stock unit at the end of your 3-month free trial of crappy XM if you so desire.
I think we pay like $6-7/month for a second subscription of Sirius (hubby has lifetime subscription in his truck).

Kinda sucks, used to have Sirius radio in my past cars, I'd deactivate the service and I would still receive radio service for a couple months thereafter for free. XM turned off my radio the morning the day my trial expired. XM is really on top of their service. Since then I've just been listening to FM radio or pandora via iPhone And stereo Bluetooth. I'm not to fond of the lame FM quality so I just got a magnaflow muffler installed yesterday.
Mine lasted 3 months and 1 week, exactly. I was driving to NC from WV, w/ my wife, last Saturday. XM was working at the beginning of the trip. We picked up my brother and future sister-in-law, had breakfast, got into the 4Runner and the XM stopped working! Luckily, I'd just received my new iphone 4 the night before, so I used the bluetooth streaming for Pandora and mp3. Having that, XM just didn't impress enough to actually pay for it.
The weird thing is that I didn't get a call or anything from XM to renew. They just figured I wasn't interested, I suppose.
tonkat - Considering I've had 3 vehicles and 3 mp3 players since 2006, only 3 transfers for a $400 "lifetime" investment seems like a crap deal. IMO, you should be able to transfer as many times as you want.

Just renewed [or extended?] my XM reception yesterday at the "promotional" rate of $77 + $11.78 in Royalty fees/yr. for the next 3 years.
Generally followed the forum advice with the XM representative [i.e., acted like a dumb but mellow "potential" subscriber] and simply asked for the promotional rate of $77.
Salesperson said: "...sure, you can have all 160 or so XM channels[ the full package] for the annual half-price rate [$77] & the half-priced Royalty fee [$11.78]. And, if you're interested, I can "reserve" this rate when you renew again next year & even extend it for 3-more years...."
Took it at face value, gave her the credit card # & said thanx.....!
