xreas fails again

Seepage at 65k?! I'm still looking for my first 4R, and putting a premium on XREAS for my extensive highway use. I'll probably get an '03 with around 100k on it, perhaps I'm asking for trouble? Half a million miles on my Land Cruisers has been fairly trouble free, I'm hoping for the same with a 4R.

I wouldn't worry about XREAS too much. At my dealership, we've seen very few XREAS failures. It's not nearly as common as one might think.

My own 4Runner is a Sport Edition, so it has XREAS and I haven't had any issues at all with the system. It does handle noticeably better than non-XREAS 4Runners, which I drive from time to time (customer vehicles).

How would I know if my xreas is failing? I currently have 40,000 miles and noticed the suspension system has felt a little softer taking turns and corners. Could it just be my tires? Is there something I could be visually inspect to ensure all systems are working?

this is a side by side pic of 08 FJC OR package front coil over vs. stock 04 SR5, they are the exact same length, but only the FJC coil is made of bigger wire:

take a look at any, i mean any stock 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runner's on the road, they are all sag in the butt. why? because when people buy the new truck, it rode nice and quiet, but over the years when the under weighted springs got tired, they start to getting shorter and shorter.

i noticed a leak on my 06 sports xreas as well. i have the certified extended warranty but i'm not sure if it's covered under that. if not, i want to swap out the xreas all together but still want the less body-roll ride. i don't mind bumpy ride or louder road noise. after looking on this forum, people said good things about the bilstien shocks. i have a couple of questions:

1. i'm thinking about getting the bilstein heavy duty (F4-BE5-C514-H0) shocks. can i use my original springs and just swap out the shocks?

2. i assume i'll have to swap out all 4 shocks. once i disconnect the xreas tube, i assume i cannot use them anymore?

3. am i forgetting something?

How would I know if my xreas is failing?

Make a sharp turn or corner @ 35mph -40mph (max). If you have to hit your brakes to control your 4runner, then your xreas maybe failing. Or go underneath and check if you see any fluid leaks.

i went to the dealer to get an oil change and confirmed my rear right shock is instead leaking. the repair cost for xreas is $1300 so i'm not going to do it. i want to have the same or at least close to xreas performance as far as body roll wise. i don't mind bumpier ride. what do you guys think i should do? after reading several posts, i can come up with:

1. just changing out the shocks to bilstien and keep everything the same
2. use fj cruiser factory setup

any input will be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know where I can get a set of brand new ones? I don't want to risk getting a bad set by buying from the forums or ebays. And how much does the installation usually cost?

Not sure what warranty you have. But on my '05 a leaking X-Reas was covered under the Toyota Extended Platinum Warranty!
