Xreas or not?!

xreas 135,000 and running strong. I take it out to the mountains every month. not crazy off road stuff but good rocky mountain trails.

You can easily level a 4runner with XREAS. For folks that do hardcore off roading will need better shocks and thus ditch the XREAS. For minor stuff, the XREAS with a simple spacer lift is more than adequate.

I have X-REAS and I love the ride. A 2008 sport for $25k and 28k is a fantastic deal compared to where I live (DC area). I just searched the CPO's in my area and you would have to pay $30k - $32k for similar mileage and year on a sport. If it's a CPO you can a Toyota warranty and they also have 2.9% financing right now.

If the xreas crap out within the 100k warranty coverage would they replace it or try and say it was my fault they bite the dust and try to charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix it? Any one have experience with this?

they will replace it, because from what I understand its not a common wear and tear item, like the timing belt.

To answer your question above, yes the truck is used off road from time to time. Many miles are city/highway slogging.. but not all.. The truck is used like it was intended... A go anywhere, any time, any weather, vehicle. (and before you ask, I use it for towing too)

If you are even considering fixing a Xreas system then buy one without. It is a cool feature and I find that it works well... but if/when it dies, almost everyone will tell you to replace it with quality aftermarket parts. If that is an issue for you, then buy a truck without it.

A co-worker of mine has a 2005 limited that was ALL city driven and he had the Xreas fail in his second year of ownership (about 35,000 miles). The dealer replaced it all under warranty... He and I both agree, that if his truck fails again, he will install a set of quality aftermarket shocks and ditch the XREAS.

This should not be a deal breaker in the purchasing decision.

Ditched the XREAS at 145K miles...with the Toytec Ultimate 3" lift and I notice a much smoother ride. I was concerned that it might be to stiff, but not the case at all, very happy with the setup from ToyTec....
