Xterra Recovery Vehicle

This weekend I was up at snowshoe doing some snowboarding and we got probably 14in of snow during the 4 days I was there! There were cars sliding all over the place and I made countless recoveries. Actually it was probably about a dozen or so but I've never been more glad I drive a 4runner. Most of them were civics, corollas, accords, etc, who had no business driving up there in the first place. I pulled a jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4, a 4x4 ford escape, and what I'm most proud of, 3 4x4 Nissan Xterras. One of which was a lifted 2in and was a pro 4x offroad model with a locker.

Hard to tell if it was just the drivers or vehicle but not one 4runner was seen on the side of the road. Felt like such a bad a$$ proving how capable my 4runner is.

I assure you it was the driver because the vehicle is extremely capable.
More than likely he just got over confident.

But good job. Put the right driver behind the wheel of a capable vehicle and a lot can be done.

Not to discredit you or anything, but it was most likely the driver. Xterras are very capable trucks...but even diff lock won't help get a stuck truck out of that mess.

I totally agree that the xtrerra is a very capable vehicle (especially the pro 4x). I'm not the biggest fan of them simply for their looks and overall cheep feel, but man it feels good to shut my friends up about how awesome their xterras are after showing them some pics.

Winning Son... I'm going to start keeping track of the Chevy and Ford lifted 4x4 I pull out around this place and post the numbers at the end of winter. So far I'm at three.

They weren't when the 2nd gen first came out.
(The first gen was a little cheap feeling though)

Always fun towing people out!!! The overconfident driver can bury anything. Hell I buried my runner once haha.

In my option the 2nd gen xterras don't feel cheap. 1st gens do a little. My moms got a 2011 4x4 and boy the thing I like most is the power. They put a fun motor in that for sure.

My 06 Off Road Xterra was anything but cheap. Thing was a beast on and off the trail. I still miss it, the 4runner is nice and all but it's not really fair to compare the 3rd Gen 4r to the 2nd Gen X. Better frame, drivetrain, motor, much better interior, and I could stuff 33s without a lift.

Lots of mixed opinions on the Xterra.

My buddy has a 2nd gen Xterra, interior feels extremely cheap. Dashboard squeaks, moldings all feel of cheap plastic, etc..

I'd take a 3rd gen any day even if our motor is a snail!

Sorry, didn't mean to stir up such an argument guys just stating how I felt about them after riding in a few, but to each is own. If whatever car you drive make s you happy then that's all that matters.

My snowboard club at school grabs a house up there 3 or 4 times a year shoves like 60 people in a house and for $20 you get one dinner and. 3 or 4 days of riding! Can't beat that!

I'd say it's a little of both. Even at 2" of lift, it would put it around the height of a stock 4Runner. A few inches of ground clearance in the snow can make all the difference. I do like the Xterra's, but also agree that the early years were built pretty cheaply. My friend has an '01 and the build compared to my '01 feel is night and day in my opinion.
