Y-pipe install

So has anyone removed their OEM Y pipe, gutted the cats, and reinstalled the OEM Y pipe? While I know the URD pipe will out perform this option, I have to assume doing this would free up some restriction, change the sound, and possibly have some positive results on performance and maybe even fuel economy? NO, I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT FUEL ECONOMY! I know what I got when I bought it but there isn't anyone here that wouldn't appreciate even a slight bump over my personal average of about 16 mpg

Gutting or hollowing your cats out. Will actually hurt performance. Because your creating an expansion chamber which will slow down exhaust gas and create turbulence when it goes back down to 2.5" ... And this will actually screw with the efficiency of the flow of gas and the scavenging effect.

This hollowing cats out will only really work for turbo app ko ications.

So I have the new y pipe installed as of last weekend. Fit finish and quality is outstanding! I will start another thread with the info.

That was the problem with URD spec-u. They were not at the proper equal length and the merge collector was not the best. I hear gadget says it's fixed now but who knows.

This is a totally different animal and mine sound nothing like that. The equal length was calculated specifically for the 1GR. Roostfactor can explain his work much better than I can so I will leave that to him.

I've had my urd y pipe for almost 4years... still great and still rust free because I painted it in high temp paint and wrapped it in a inconel heat shield from ATP Wrap.

URD Y is sufficient, if I had the extra dough I would go Rooster Y but I was fortunate to locate a TW 4Runner owner 2 hours from me that swapped from a URD Y to a Rooster Y. $150 was a steal and two days to get the gaskets from Gadget, I'm all smiles entering Houston freeways. I Would try to contact Rooster and ask him if anyone of his customers are doing the same upgrade and buy their used URD Y for cheap. I have one spare urd Y gasket if anyone wants it for free. Steve forgot to send me 2 and sent me 3 total on accident.

Dual out is purely for looks. If you did do a true dual, there is likely zero power gain and you need some kind of X pipe anyway. Not much room under there to work with and if done wrong you will hurt performance. Not worth it to me.
