Y-pipe install

more pics
I'm having a really hard time removing the nuts in the first pic. I've soaked them in PB blaster and feel like they may break off if I put more pressure of use a stronger impact. Any tips on how you got yours off?

I used areokroil once a week for three weeks before removing those header nuts. I also like to heat cycle tough nuts. For example, drive to heat up the exhaust then spray aerokroil. Also, try loosening the nuts when hot then try it cold. Good luck

My MPGs are up from 17mpg to 19. I think its summer gas more than the Y Pipe. I was at 17 for a while after the new y pipe.

Thinking about this y pipe as my next mod.
The company's website says you cannot use it if you have a drop-down differential kit I believe, has anybody installed this mod with a lifted 4Runner and differential drop kit without any issues? Thanks

went to buy this today online....$700 shipped. No thanks. It's $600 before shipping which is steep, but the shipping price kills it for me. It's a big piece so I get why FedEx charges so much.

I'll see if my muffler shop would be willing to bend me a y pipe for 4--600.

JK ponied up the cash and bought it. he sent me a discount code which helped offset shipping costs.

Been thinking about the y pipe for a while and was wondering if anyone has installed it without an aftermarket catback, then added a catback?

I am just curious if there is any real gain to be had be adding a catback,or if all the gain is just from the ypipe?

If there is no gain I would just do the y pipe alone, but if there is power/mpg gain to be had by adding a catback I would do the whole thing.

MPGs with y pipe are 18.9. Up from 17.4. HOWEVER, I thinks its summer gas related more than the y pipe. I didnt see the MPG gain for a couple months after install. Timing was aligned with seasonal gas switch.

When doing exhaust, i like to use brass hardware (nuts mostly) when i can. Just my .02

midrange feels a LITTLE better with the y

muffler swap made a LITTLE better throttle response. i also added a UQ vibrant resonator in front of the muffler to tone it down.

Thanks for the info. I am guessing the y-pipe probably made a larger difference than the catback? Was your combined exhaust setup loud enough that it was not tolerable without the extra resonator added?

eh idk tbh. its a different improvement.

the muffler was a touch louder than i wanted. it wasnt bad but i'm happier now. it's a v6 so i didnt want that much attention lol

agreed. It's a slow v6 so i don;t want it to sound like a drag car lol. Some power improvement and possibly mpg improvement would be welcome though if its worth adding a catback along with the y-pipe. If not, I just plan to do the pipe for minor improvement and also so no one steals my cats. Seems to be a growing problem nowdays.

Does anyone happen to know part# for the studs from exhaust manifold to y-pipe? I stripped 2 of them when tightening the y pipe down.

The Y pipe fitment is not so great and takes quite a bit for the manifold side to both fit on.

Install is complete but was a real pita. fitment of the y ppipe is pretty poor between the 2 manifolds. The OEM nuts on the exhaust are also garbage. I had to dremel off the stripped part of the stud but was able to put the nuts on and get it secured.

Do not reuse the OEM nuts, and when putting the y-pipe in, place it on all the studs and bolt up the exhaust end. use a car jack and jack up the ypipe to hold it tight against the manifold then tighten the bolts down.

Let us know what you think after driving with it for a while, I'm still tempted to buy one

I will say fitment wise I am a bit disappointed and it makes the install a PITA.

Power wise there is a definite difference(feels like 20hp or so), but I am already supercharged so if you are NA take that with a grain of salt and it would probably be a noticeable difference but much less. Most of the increase surprisingly seems to be at lower RPM. I have the OEM exhaust and at very high rpm there is a bit of extra rasp, but other wise no increase in noise.

I did it for 2 reason: so no one can steal my cats, and also for some increase in HP. for the price(almost 700 shipped) I would not do it for HP increase on an NA car. Is it helpful; probably. would it be worth the price? debatable.

Custom Y Pipe

I ended up cutting out my secondary cats on my '07 4.0 liter limited and deleting factory restricted Y-Pipe and used a flange off of an Acura CL type s. Welded it to a stainless steel flex pipe, 40 series flowmaster nothing in between factory turnout location with custom tip.
