Yet Another LIFT Question Thread...

Nice, Ill be watching this thread closely. I wanna see photos when you get that lift installed! Where did you buy the Tundra front coils from? Find them used?

That's a pretty picture right there.

You will really like the LC/Bilstien 5125 combo in the back. It rides perfectly. Those are 7 wraps right?

I look forward to your report on height and ride of the Tundra TRDs with 5100's. And the pictures of course! :bigok:

I found them at a local parts yard assembled with the struts/shocks. They were on a 2004 access-cab Tundra. I am excited to get this setup on my truck! Finding time is now the challenge.

They're the 7.5wraps (19 inch) and 8 wraps (19.25 inch). Anyone know if it matters which one goes on which side? I'm currently planning on putting the longer coil on the driver side... That sound right?

Definately watching your thread as I think this is the general direction I'd like to go in the future. My use for my T4R is very similar to yours. I see a set of '93 LC coils listed on CL locally for $75 but am just learning what all it takes to make this happen. I'm much more of a motorcycle guy when it comes to mods/maintenance. :D Looking foward to your photos and thoughts.

Make sure to read up on the Lift FAQ sticky and read several of these kinds of threads. Then if you can keep it all together and not get confused on how many different options there are, what needs you need.... The front is easy, but the rear kept me guessing on what would work best for my needs. I probably spent several hours just reading these kind of threads to get good ideas! Good luck and have fun!

Did you get these installed yet??

Sadly, no. I gave it a shot last Sunday, but I decided to back out as I figured I was going to run short on time and energy that day. I had a late start and as I was learning as I was going it was quite interesting. Not to mention the wife and baby kept needing some attention too :P

My plan is to try the install again this weekend, and this time I've got no other plans to get in the way! The only part I probably can't install myself will be the panhard drop so that'll wait for another date. I've already taken before pictures and measurements, so I'm ready for this!

Update after I'm done with it this weekend!

ToyTec Lift Question

I can not seem to find out how to post a new thread either but hopefully someone will answer my questions. I installed the toytec 3" coilovers with the bilstein 5150's in the rear. Overall I am happy and the 4 runner looks and rides great. So looking at the pictures below I must have screwed something up during installation as I have serious grease deposits all over the CV joints and lower control arms that started occurring right after I installed the lift. My questions are:

What did I do wrong?
What needs to be replaced?
How important / expensive / hard is it going to be?
And should I upgrade to an aftermarket part if I need to replace something down there?

That upper CV boot looks complete torn away from the CV axle. I'd get the CV rebooted or completely replaced depending on how long this has been going on. Also, if you haven't already looked into a Differential Drop you may want to. It'll relieve some of the stresses and angles that the CV axles are now at with a lift. See Differential drops here at ToytecLifts.com.

Also, there's a "NEW THREAD" button above the threads that you can use for new threads. Hope this helps!

Did those coil springs come off the same LC or 2 different ones? I ask because they typically have 2 different paint codes per side but to answer your question, yes, I'd put the taller on the driver. That's how it should have been on the LC as well.

I assume that they both came off the same vehicle. In my research for the right coils, this set or pair of coils with those color codes came up quite often. I'm not sure exactly what year they came off of, though.
Thanks for the answer on what side to put them on!

Most that I have ran across have different sets of color codes per side. Maybe those coils are an exception, not sure, but from what you say it seems to be that way.

The LC coils are always different for passenger and driver and carry different paint codes. I believe the longer coil goes on the driver side to compensate for the gas tank and the driver.

Just to confirm, the LC coils I got have different color codes on them:

White, light blue, dbl pink (19")
White, dark blue, dbl purple (19 1/4")

I can't confirm the last colors exactly as I'm color blind, but the blues are easy to distinguish.

:snacker: Subscribing, interested in seeing how this effects your ride as I love how smooth the stock ride is on my 2002.

Okay, so I thought I'd put out an update to my lift! It's not on. YET. But I do have all the parts! Here's what I ended up going with:

FRONT: Tundra TRD Front coils w/Blistein 5100 Adjustable struts. I had Toytec (Thanks Dylan!) put 'em together with some 4Runner tophats.

REAR: LandCruiser Front coils w/Blistein 5125 shocks (BE5-6252-H5)

(shock covers and eye-to-stud adapters pictured as well)

I also got the Toytec Differential drop and Panhard drop bracket

Now I just gotta find some time to get this installed! I can't wait! Once in place I'll be definitely posting before and after pictures for those who are curious (like myself).
CoMarc if I missed it I'm sorry but how much did you spend for all parts?
I see the Tundra Coils, LC Coils, Bilstien shocks X 4 w/adapter, and panhard.

I've spent roughly $900 on the lift plus a little for taxes. That includes having Toytec assemble the front Tundra coils and Blistein 5100s with new 4Runner tophats/parts, some new front swaybar links, and I paid $130 for the Tundra coils with the struts/tophat assemblies. I also bought those Blistein 5125s for the rear where I could have gone for a much cheaper solution such as stock LC shocks. ($80 versus $200). The price always depends on what deals you can get and if you're okay using used parts versus new parts. For my build, I'm going with all new parts except for the coils themselves.

I'm hoping to sell the Tundra TRD struts, my old front assembled coils/struts, and rear coils to help leviate some of the cost as well. Because I'm (slowly) able to install the lift myself I'm also saving a huge chunk of change. I wouldn't have been able to, however, without the support of this forum (shout out to all those that have given me help)! All in all, considering this is pretty close to what Sonoran Steel sells for their 1.2 lift kit I don't think I've done too bad! That said, their kit also includes completely all new parts/pieces and they fabricate their own parts for some of it. It's a high-class setup, I just didn't want to pay over $1000 for it!

Rough Breakdown of parts/prices:
$130 - TRD Tundra Coils w/struts
$220 - Blistein Tundra Adj 5100s
$100 - Assembly of front parts
$ 80 - Front Swaybar link kits
$ 80 - LandCruiser Coils
$200 - Blistein 4Runner 5125s
$ 30 - Differential Drop
$ 50 - Panhard Drop

Sweet!

Awesome I am going down this same rout soon. I'm gonna go with the LC Shocks from toyotapartszone.com in the rear, and holding off on the diff & panhard drop, at least until next paycheck. Also this is the first mention I've seen of Front Sway Bar link kits?? Was that recommended by Toytec? What was the reasoning?

Haha.. No. The reasoning behind that was I took off my wheel and found one of the links broken--snapped in half! I had no idea that it was broken or how long its been like that, but I decided now was a good time to get it replaced! And if you replace one you gotta replace the second.

As a side note, when you're down there and start pulling everything off it's a good idea to replace old parts anyways. I didn't do this for anything else, but I thought about it!
