You guys don't make this easy!

Hey everyone!

First time posting. I'll soon be buying my parents 2006 4runner V8 Limited 4wd, and since the decision I've been mulling around and looking at everyones ride.

There are so many things I want to do now!

I can't wait to be able to start putting 87 in the tank vs 93...although the cost saving shouldn't take effect tanks to gas tank size, oh well.

Anyways, my first question for everyone is to figure out what type of wheels Blackworks has on his 4runner. The pic where dark blue 4runner is climbing over a small hill with the truck in the background.

I know they're D-window style but since I'm new I can't PM the member on his set up.

I really like the way it sits height and width and hopefully he stumbles across this post.

I believe they're just some steel d window wheels such as those available from most places that sell wheels. Not sure the specific brand, but I know there are several (pro comp, mickey thompson, cragar, eaton, wheels offroad, and american racing off the top of my head) that make that style and size. They're available from summit racing, 4 wheel parts, ntwonline, discount tire direct, etc.

If you have the big brakes on your limited (some do, some don't) you'll need at least 17" wheels to clear the calipers. I may be wrong but I think the rotor diamer is 13.3" for the big brakes, if you need to measure to be certain.

As far as lift, check out the suspension FAQ and lift and tire stickies. Can't say for sure but it looks like he is running a 2.5/1.5" lift and 265/70R17 tires.

you're right [MENTION=50591]gaterose[/MENTION]... rotors are 13.3". Caliper are the same in function in terms of pistons (same pads for both), the caliper comes with longer "legs" to clear the larger diameter rotors. unless you're willing to change rotors and calipers, only 17" wheels will fit with the larger rotors.... I wanted the bronze trd wheels for the longest time until I gave up on them due to size... it just wouldn't fit, TWSS!

I'm not sure on the caliper size but knowing my dad he would have gotten the best minus sound system...he never gets the sound system!

Oh well, '06 4runner with less than 70k...I'm not complaining.

If it's a Limited, it came with the JBL sound, that's the best sound system available in the 4runners. I immediately replaced mine because I have higher standards (lol) but mine's also an '03 and even the JBL package had limited connectivity.

Most people just use 17" wheels anyway since they look better and the stock ones are 17-18". The only reasons to switch to smaller ones if you're serious about off roading and need the extra sidewall flex or for somewhat cheaper tires.

Sounds like a good deal, it's always nice buying from family/friends and knowing where it's been. I bought my '03 Limited from my aunt, passed on a few options I would've enjoyed just because I knew the driver and full history.

Congrats on your new runner. I recently purchased my first 4th gen and I totally agree with what you're saying. These guys give me a daily dose of 4runner envy. I sold my 3rd gen after I picked this one up, and I have that chunk of change sitting inthe bank dieing to be spent on building this 4runner up but I need a new kitchen worse so that's where it's going. I'm hoping to do it as cheap as possible and have a little leftover to get me started.

My 04 manual states"

UNLEADED gasoline, Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or
higher.
For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline
with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is
recommended.

When I had my 08 They had removed the portion about "Improved Performance". They removed that part for 07-up.

08 Manual States:

Fuel type:
Unleaded gasoline, Octane Rating 87
(Research Octane Number 91) or higher.

06 Manual states:

Fuel type:
UNLEADED gasoline, Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or
higher.
