Your 1st Day With Your T4R

OK, please skip this post if you're sick & tired of me obsessing about getting my new T4R on Monday. I apologize.
The last time I smelled that new vehicle fragrance was 23 years ago.

But you others, please tell me about your experience of the first day you got yours.

Besides inspectiing it for any dings or damage that might have occured on the voyage from Tacoma to Anchorage, I plan to pull the dipstick to make sure there is oil in the engine.

What was your first day like? What were your initial impressions?
Was that first day as good as I'm hoping Monday will be?

it's hard to enjoy mine on it's first day. It was like 105 degrees on the day i bought mine. But that new car smell...... sooo refreshing. I checked for the dings and dents and scratches, of course, and talk about just looking at any angle of it because I couldn't get enough of it.

If only I can, I would sleep in any of my new cars on the first days. :D
 
Picked it up feb 13th ( 06 ) at about 3 pm cruised around the rest of the day til nightfall , then I was off in a snow & mud covered field before she even came home to the garage.:D :biggrin2: :bigok:
 
I picked mine up in June so the weather was nice. I checked the truck for any imperfections on the exterior or interior. I then drove it home to program the garages and load my gear in. After that, I just started at it and drooled! :p
 
I personally hated the smell of the car when i got it, but had a blast playing with everything and driving it

I forgot to add that in they beginning hours of owning I went right to the tire shop and switched to 265/70/17 Revos. Got 50.00 per tire for the Donlop At20's , so I changed all 5 for a total of 250.00 off the Revo price.
 
Ours is supposed to be in next Monday or Tuesday (19th or 20th)in Oklahoma City, OK. We'll be leaving the day it comes in for Houston, TX (~400 miles) then a few days later driving from Houston to Denver, CO (~1050 miles), then a few days after that from Denver back home (~760 miles) So add the 100 miles or so from the dealer to my house and I'll have about 2300 miles within the first 2 weeks!

Any thoughts on breaking in the engine?

not exactly a first day...more of a first drive story:

I was out to TD the 4Runner at a local dealership. My wife and I got in and headed out onto a road which immediately turns into a higher-speed lane (up to 90km/h) heading out of town. Normally I would have used this opportunity to floor it and test out the get-up-and go abilities...but not this time. I just kept it steady and stopped accelerating exactly at the speed limit, enjoying the red-dot of the speedo. Around the corner cops had set-up and were catching people with radar.

With that bit of luck I was pretty sure I had the right vehicle!

I asked them not to wash mine, since i hate tire shine stuff. On my way home, i stoped by and used the 4x4 just to see what it could do. I put 1000 miles on it in one week, connected my toy hauler and went on a 600 mile road trip. She has not rested since.

Also, it kept in the street most of the time now. I keep worthless junk in my garage.
 
Picked it up at the dealer with my parents,bro,gf(now wife) and got Chinese food. Pretty damn exciting huh!! 30,000 miles later not one issue!
 
Ahh yes, that first day! Brought it home from the dealership in the rain. Got home, parked it in the garage, and sat in it for a couple of hours with the manual, finding everything out about it. Washed & waxed it the very next day. Then made my list of mods :D
 
First drive was 2 weeks ago - Nov. 30. Was at the dealer til 10:30pm, it took them so long to finish up the paperwork. Drove home into the mountains at midnight through blizzard conditions - the previous day's 20" of snow being blown by 50 mph gusts. Actually HAD to use 4LO to get through drifts on dirt road into the neighborhood and then again at top of driveway. It wasn't exactly how I imagined learning the differences between my old '98 4Runner and the new '07, but I knew I'd bought the right truck again.

Next day, first thing - went to tire store and got new Blizzaks. The Michelin's Cross Terrains will be great in summer, but they don't have the grip I like for high elevation ice and snow driving.

BTW, as further proof that 4Runners hold their value - my '98 SR5 w/ 162K miles was totalled a couple weeks ago after a run-in with an elk. Unbelievably, the insurance company payoff was just under 1/3 of the original purchase price paid in 1997. Anybody wonder why I bought another one?
 
I got it in the afternoon along with the usual inspect it and checking everything, signing papers, paying for the truck and let the sales rep explain the basics. Took it home and parked it in the garage, had dinner and then tried to program the auto locking/unlocking and played with the other features.
