Your experiance with electric impact guns

Looking to get 2 electric impacts. One corded and one cordless. I would like your opinions on which are junk and which are good. The corded will be for @home stuff and the cordless is going in my supply box for flats trail repairs etc. I want both to be able to break most nuts,bolts for suspension, lugs. drain plugs shocks etc so they don't need to be top o the line and please only replay if you actually own one. I would like to know what you have been able to do and not with them and cost. I dont have money or room for a compressor so air is out of the question. Thanks folks.

I'd have to say the cordless impact is probably one of the best tools ever made. Much easier to use than lugging an air hose around the garage and not to mention the lack of noise.

I've only used the Snap-On CT4850 and 6850. These will break loose crank pulley bolts. These can easily handle lug nut and suspension bolts. i'd suggest finding a newer model with the li-ion batteries.

we've got a cordless one in our toolbox at work and it is easily the most useful, best and most coveted tool among my guys.

I'd never used one up to this point, but I'm definitely sold. Hmmm.... maybe I'll ask for one for my birthday

LOVE it. Couldn't justify buying a air tank and ratchet. It has no problem what-so-ever loosening the lug nuts on the 4runner or wifes Lexus.

I have a corded electric one I've used. Only issue I have compared to air is that it is very large in size compared to the air gun or air ratchet.

Also the electric torque read out is not trusty, so need to retorque with hand torque wrench. But maybe that is a good thing, since it under torques, it would be bad if it over torqued.

I got a Milwaukee 28v 1/2" impact and cannot recommend it. It struggles to take off 100 ft/lbs lug nuts and killed a battery doing 6 lug nuts. I only got it because I already had a 28v drill and wanted to keep the same batteries.

I have a 24V DeWalt cordless...best thing since sliced bread...used it quite a bit for tire rotations. Just make sure you use sockets made for an impact wrench...not your regular sockets and don't over torque with the impact...just a few 'bumps' and then use a torque wrench.

Oh, if you use it to remove the 4Runner lugnuts...make sure you use a deep well socket...the shallow sockets will mar the lugnut finish.

Yeah, its a little pricey. I've seen a few used for $200-250. But honestly with 2 batteries it will be the only impact gun you will need. No need to buy the extra corded impact.

Even the Ni-cad battery keeps enough power to change out a few sets of wheels.

I think I am old fashioned and can't seem to warm up to the idea of a cordless impact. In therory it should be able to out perform an air gun since electric motors can generate tons of torque. It just doesn't seem natural to not drag a hose around.

You can get good cordless but you will spend big money. Unless you need to be mobile I would go with pneumatic. You will need a compressor but it is a good thing to have any way. You can get a allot of half way decent air tools that will serve you well but unless you get good electric tools they will let you down. Pneumatic tools can also be lighter and less fatiguing to work with if you are using them for longer periods of time.

Not sure there is really one good decision when it comes to this type of question, depends allot on what you want to do and your budget.

That Milwaukee in post #7 weighs about 9 lbs. That 9lbas is allot of weight if you have to reach into odd places for any period of time.

I use my cordless mostly for tire changes at the track, but it's also been useful for trailer flats and is so convenient that it's used in the shop too.

M18 Milwaukee is insane. Rated for up to 450 ft/lbs. and I believe it, took of a crank bolt that my air impact couldn't get. Batteries last a long time. Should have bought 2.

i have a 18v Dewalt DC823, i use a ni-cd battery on it and it's one of the best tools i've ever bought for roughly 200 bucks ... and it came with 2 batteries!! definately a bigger bang for the buck. i used it to break loose crank pulley bolts and its always in my box at the track to change out slicks. i have yet to use it on my 4R when i put a lift on it. you can also get the li-ion battery for it too.
