Your favorite tools for wrenching / tech tools for special applications

Got this yesterday. Genuine Japanese tools... they even tell you how to turn a screwdriver.]

I got some those style screwdrivers from Sears a few years back. They had them on clearance for $2.50 Made by Vessel for Craftsman but they don't stock them anymore. Now they have these impact screwdriver set, also made by Vessel. Get them before Sears disappears...

I have a bunch from Wiha and Wera which have been my go-to for better than standard... always looking for new players to consider.

They are almost PB Swiss....but not quite. :crutch:

But good made Japanese screwdrivers nonetheless.

So convenient and swivels any way you can imagine, lasts forever too and damn near indestructible. Love this thing.

Yes, I guess I'm a Makita guy but these three tools are always part of my weekends in the garage.

I also use these all the time for fishing cable thru firewalls and under carpet or whatever.

Yes, I guess I'm a Makita guy but these three tools are always part of my weekends in the garage.

I recently bought a couple more Makita additions to round out my cordless tools. I picked up the same light (DML801) in December and used it for my ITRE/ OTRE & LBJ job I did in January. That light rocks! I couldn’t wait to ditch the corded shop light I was using prior.

I also picked up the 1/2” impact wrench (XWT11Z) and it is great for suspension work. Using it to loosen the lug nuts and zip them back on (using lowest setting -not to torque, just snug) and use a 1/2” Tekton torque wrench to torque to spec. Huge time/ energy saver for taking wheels off/on.

The 1/4” impact driver with the socket adapters is perfect for everything up to a 14mm nut, but I really needed the 1/2” impact for everything else.

Yeah I agree it runs out of steam but I use this for the big stuff. I was leery of it since it's harbor freight but it's been flawless since I've had it. I didn't realize it was 3/4" drive so I had to go buy an adapter.

I also have one of the predator generators and it's been awesome.

HF impacts are quite impressive; two of my brother’s techs at his boat yard have used and abused them 10x over. I think one did have a battery go bad on him.:noidea:

I've yet to cross to the dark side with cordless impacts, like the drills n drivers.
Maybe when my 25 yr old air stuff wears out or I do I'll go battery power.

I got this a few years ago when I was working at Stanley Black and Decker, the employee discount made it worth a chance. ( It wasn't even released to the public yet when we could buy them) It's proven to be a good tool, it replaced the pneumatic impact for 90% of the work that I need an impact for.

I've used the cordless to get a crank bolt off which my Ingersol Rand air tool struggles with, however my little cheapie Craftsman air compressor only goes to 90 psi, but still - the battery impacts are no joke.

No doubt cordless has come a long way and are impressive.
Been at same location for 15 yr piped air system 125 psi, why I haven't.

I would say if it works for you, don’t change unless the gun gives up the ghost, etc. I had a IR 231, quite the beast with an old 60 gallon Craftsman. But once I got my hands on a cordless Dewalt 3/8 impact in 2013 it was a whole new experience. I finally rebuilt my 231 and along with the Craftsman donated both to a local high school auto repair program.

Having used both the 3/8 and 1/2 HF impact, I would haven consider both to stand up rather well to everyday shop use. It isn’t the somewhat cheaply make junk like other power tools are that are sold there. But being that I was married to the Dewalt platform beforehand, I went with big yellow.

Mobility, and the lack of an air hose are why I won’t ever look back.:dancin:

I bought this dual sided extendable ratchet from Harbor Freight last summer for a job I thought "the extension could be handy" on... It's turned into my favorite ratchet at this point and I keep it in my tool bag in my car with me now

A friend at work shown me this thinking I could use it. It’s a connector depinning tool.
Round, flat etc....it was 10 dollars on amazon. If I use it two times it pays for itself. Usually I use a micro screwdriver or small paper clip to push up the barb holding connectors in their sockets.

By far not my most used tool, but by far the most useful tool to complete a somewhat otherwise tedious task with otherwise high potential for error.....

I assume an off brand version would be just as handy....
