I'm in the market for some as i believe mine are making noise and it should just be done anyways with a lift, but i prolonged getting them. i thought i'd ask what everyone's opinions are on what they have. I'd LOVE to not spend a lot on the higher end ones.. but if there's a GOOD reason why i should, then i might.
I remember hearing the LR UCA's has some premature failure.. but that MIGHT have been fixed with an update? thanks guys

as of now, the LR's are my top choice having a sealed ball joint and especially the price.. any reason why i shouldn't?

Unless things have changed, LR quality is so so. When I was looking at them I liked the Camburg because if you get the ones that have the Moog ball joints they can be replaced easier. Plus from what I was told you can easily find Moog joints in an auto part store if need be.

The ball joint is low quality, nothing like a Toyota OEM one. They may or may not have gotten the bushing design right, this time. I think my LR ball joints lasted less than 40K miles, and the bushings were shot, too.

They are awesome for adjustability for camber/caster, but unless you are doing the alignment yourself and understand it, you're probably not going to get any benefit. Most alignment techs can't properly adjust alignment with the OEM adjusters; adding another level of adjustability will just confuse them further.

the only thing i read about and concerned me about the Camburgs was that area on top of the uniball where dirt/sand can collect easily.. i take mine on the beach and it gets muddy and with the snow up here i'm afraid of salt collecting in there

the bushing being shot at 40k definitely sucks.. the ball joint is one thing but having to pull them out to replace the bushings too involves a bit more work

Camburg balljoint. Best option for non-extended travel shocks
I'm running the camburgs with ball joint ucas and extended travel shocks. No problems so far, found a few other FJs running them long term also without issue. They re-angle the BJ to allow for more down travel. I heard one person here mention the body of the UCA contacted his coil over at full drop, but I have not seen that on mine yet. There is just enough clearance.

If I was doing any high speed wheeling I would do a uni-ball, but for trails and basic overland they seem adequate. Time will tell for sure.

Not that long, one year in June. I just decided to grease because I was doing related maint. I would guess once or twice a year is a good schedule.

If you drive in salt you should read the LR thread from someone complaining about rust with pics... The paint job doesnt seem to hold up as well, going back to your quality concerns.

i missed that one... well after using search on google vs search in the forum and staying up till 3 am researching i ordered a pair today off amazon for $396 shipped!

My take on it is that, depending on the coilover used, the larger uniball on the Camburg's may have more clearance issues under down travel than the Total Chaos with the UCA actually contacting the spring. It was for this reason that I went with Total Chaos, after not finding any hard info regarding Camburg UCA clearance with the rest of the suspension I wanted to run. That and as stated, Total Chaos was the originator. I considered the Camburg ball-joint UCA's until I found out they use Moog bj's due to Toyota not offering reasonable UCA ball joint replacements.

Camburgs tend to have a better price point. If you're not in a hurry wait for a sale.. that's what I did and I wanna say I got something like 20% through Wheelers during one of their promotions (great customer service from that company btw).

Lastly.. isn't there like ten pages on this previously discussed somewhere?
