Amsoil offers one that is comparable.
I’m thinking that the Mobil1 filter is the next best thing until the TRD filter are back in stock. I can get them from an Autozone nearby but they are not low budget. $14
M1C-256
Amsoil are expensive and they don’t appear to be out of stock on Amsoil.com
EA15K49
$30 !!!
These shortages are freak’n ridiculous. First toilet paper and now oil filters wtf?
I know these kinds of comments can get turned into “oil threads”, but I’ll say it anyway.
The media in the M1 filter is unquestionably great. All markers of a great filter present themselves…except one.
I found out the hard way that the pressure differential across the M1 filter was strangling my F150 engine.
i would just settle with normal OEM filters man... cheap and readily available last time i checked.
yes, the Royal Purple is exactly like the TRD, I cant find these either!
It IS everything. Not just new cars, not just microchips, etc. Raw materials are through the roof and availability is down. Shipping is through the roof, you have to fight for the space, and containers (if you use them) are up thousands of percent. Labor is impossible to come by. Sick days are rampant due to covid (or claimed as that). This is currently spanning all industries. I work in automotive myself, but all industries are feeling the pinch, and bad. It's everything. I work in a bike shop. I tell customers multiple times daily 'if you see it in stock, and need it, buy it." Stock is hard to find and quick to disappear.
We try to discourage people from "hoarding" parts though. Only buy what you might reasonably need for the next year.
That being said....I'm glad I bought a big pack of filters in the spring.

I have customers with certain products on order since February and they may not get them until next year. We even send a crew of sales guys down to help work the line at our main plant just about every week now. Salaried employees making six figures or even $200K in some cases doing $15/hr production line work. Yep it's that bad. I've done it myself. It helps a little with the labor problem but we just can't get caught up overall. It's going to be a while before everyone digs themselves out of this hole. It's a deep one. We all need to be mindful of that as consumers.
My company is all about "one team, one dream" but its going to take some time here, for everyone I see and talk to.
My 08 F150, notorious for the phaser and VCT solenoid issue, has a canister oil filter in which you unscrew the entire filter. This is when to use OEM strictly.
The 4R uses a cartridge filter, where the flow components and cap are the same, and we just change out the filter element alone. Since the filter element is not as drastic of a potential difference as changing out the entire canister filter, I would lean toward it being far safer to experiment with brands.
I used the Mobile 1 filter from Autozone as well and I'm sure it's working just fine, but not sure how I'd really tell the difference without measuring anything lol. It was my first oil change with the 4R, so we'll see how things look in 10K miles...
