zero point calib not working please help

Shame on CJ3...you are supposed to know everything :D
Now NJrunner11 is going to spaz out again! haha

I don't know if you have tried this but I have the simple is stupid suggestion: Have you tried just disconnecting the battery for more than 10 minutes? It may be more serious given it isn't going away on its own...but just a thought when all else fails reboot?

yeah ive disconnected the battery over night
ive crawled around adn checked all the brake lines and sensors and eeryting you can imagine
ive tried every combination of off and ons with the calibration directions
ive tried everything

time to let the stealer deal with it... oh joy

but special thanks to CJ for trying!

CJ, how do you fault the VSC on purpose?

I drove it up next to my house on an angle. Left the steering wheel offset and 'zero-pointed' it.:D

Thanks for the kind words to me, just wish we could get NJRunner up and going.

I've thought about VSC enough, I want to see pics of his rig with lift and tires!!!!:D

Not sure I understand yet. Why would some people need to perform the calibration after a lift and other not. When I did the lift I did not move the steering wheel at all nor did i turn on the vehicle during the lift. Did you guys do either of those things? I still think he has a stressed sensor wire, especially if he did those two things.

Per BR001-04

Have you done this?

"15. Drive the vehicle for at least 5 minutes to confirm Zero Point Calibration is complete.

NOTE: If viewing Diagnostic Tester Data List after repair, the Steering Angle Sensor may remain at 1150 until the vehicle reaches 28 mph. This is a normal condition until the
learned values of the steering angle have been achieved."

I can't even get passed step 1 to do that.... Stopping at the dealer on way home from work, hope everything goes well

And it is now pouring so no pics today :( I have thee worst luck ever

sorry to those who dont care, but for those who do here is an update

stopped at dealer on the way home from work. he knew exactly what i needed and said hes heard of this before. however he said its 112.95 to clean the codes. i tried to convince him to do it for free considering its only 5 mins. he said he would not because hes never seen my face or seen me in the dealership, which i understand (kinda)

so i leave. tomorrow i will be going to the other dealer where my family has bought an XB, yaris, and corolla in the past year. and 2 4runners in the past 3 years. hopefully they will take into consideration me and my familys continued business. ALSO i remembered that an old HS friend is a mechanic there, so hopefully i can get the big daddy hook up..

thanks to everything that has helped me. its raining like crazy here so hopefully by the weekend it will clear up for a photo shoot.

PS - my tires are awesome in the rain!

I'd love to know what codes they find...

Very cool about the tires working well in the rain. That's some good news for you:D

haha yeah any good news right now is awesome

and i didnt really mean clearing codes, i meant basically getting rid of the lights (zero point calib)

i hooked my scanner up last night and came back with nothing, but maybe there is something that the yota scanner will pick up that mine wont

i honestly just think my baby is being stuborn. i was very careful not to stress anytying when doing the lift so i doubt there is anything really wrong. im keeping my fingers crossed tho. i talked to my old buddy that works for yota and he said that its rare that someone comes in with lifts/tires on the newer trucks and hasnt really had any experience with what im talking about, so im going to bring him the print out of the TSB to make things easier. IF indeed i did damage something i hope hes not offended that i pull my truck out and take it to my mechanic. LOL eff them stealers!

wish me luck!

i ****ing hate dealerships. to make a long story short, read my encounter (Scion & Toyota of Turnersville, NJ)

i walk in and explain my situation. jerkoff says i have to take it to a 4x4 shop because they do not deal with oversided vehicles. i explained the truck sits 3 inches higher and its nothing crazy. he is reluctant and is trying to get rid of me. he then tells me that any scanner can fix the problem. i tell him i have a scanner and i cannot do this, it must be a toyota. he basically tells me i dont know what im talking about. so then i basically ask if he knows what im talking about, and he really has no idea. i explain everyting to him, what i did, what happened, why it happened and what needs to be fixed, and how to go about doing it (by the way he is the assistant lot manager AKA ****ing tool )

he asks and then confirms that they can do it. tells me that its going to be 95 to hook it up and then another 150 to fix. i told him that it only takes 5 mins and a simple push of the finger maybe 5 times. he tells me if its "only five mins, then take it somewhere else and have them take five mins to do" i reply "OH TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE? me and my family own 2 4runners, a toyota corolla, a scion XB, and a yaris, ALL OF WHICH were purchased here, at your dealership!" and just as i say that my friend lou, who is a tech there walks up and gives me a hug. The mood immediately changed.... so now he wants to be my friend and act like he has an inside hookup and will take care of me - but not today!?? so now i have to make an appointment for next week and he will "take care of me"...

this shit is starting to piss me off. and if my truck didn't look so freakin good, i would have regretted doing this.

on another note i talked to my buddy lou about this "tick tic tap" noise. basically as CJ3 pointed out its the valve for the vapor purge system. he said its absolutely normal as well as being a huge pain in the ass. he said that you wouldnt believe how many people come in complaining of this AND the loud injectors. apparently MANY people mistake these sounds for valve taps, which is not the case. He said besides that annoying sound, here is nothing wrong. Also talked to him about the second filter in the air box for the emissions crap and agreed that it would do absolutely no harm to remove this, as it is simply mandated for emissions reasons only.

again sorry for the rants, raves, typos, and whatever else. i promise i will have pics! i now have to wait till next week to have the zero point calibrated, but IF weather permits i will take pics tomorrow. i also put the finishing touches on my center console mod for an additional shelf of storage (which happens to work prettying effing good). so again i will have pics of this rain ever lets up!

thank you all again

edit* i have a question *ahem CJ ahem* lol... will my jack now work with the added clearance? i have yet to even look at it, let alone actually use it. i always use my buddys lift whenever needed, but if in emergency do u think my jack will extend far enough to get my tire off the ground?

1) I am glad you have the inside track and it's under control. It just blows that it has to be that hard. With sales in the crapper you'd think dealers would be very accomodating trying to both lure and reassure folks that they were making a good choice by going there.

2) That's cool that he backed up Phil64 from the FJC forum... I know mine isn't perfectly quiet but it is better:D

3) We're waiting:D:bigok:

4) It will work on the rear. I slide mine under the axle but my tire wasn't flat. I don't know about the front. It might fit under the LCA (lower control arm). Just remember while scoping it out that it has to fit when the tire is flat.

If you put a small piece of 2x4 or 4x4 on top of your spare you could use that as a 'foot' for the jack. Anytime you jack you'll be letting the tire down anyways...
