Zero point didnt work how to turn off "VSC TRAC" & "VSC OFF" & "ABS" lights

As the title says I've done the zero point reset before and it worked after I plugged a scan gauge into the car and it triped those lights.

Now the lights came back on about 6 months later seemingly without cause. I went to do the zero point again but instead of the lights turning off the ABS light blinks and they stay on.


I am assuming like most cars because the ABS light is blinking its telling me there is an issue with the ABS system (maybe wheel speed sensor) that is stopping the zero point reset to complete. I plugged in my diagnostic tool anyway and got no obd2 codes.


Anyone have any ideas or any way in which I can gather more info. I know in most cars lights blink in certain increments to send certain messages.

Car has about 75K on her 2003 V8.

Anyone at least have ideas on how to diagnose this.

Some private garages want to check it out and charge obviously an hour of diagnosis, but as far as I can tell with my OBD2 scanner I have about the same ability as your average shop to diagnose issues.


If I cant pull the code theres no reason a shop wouuld be able to, right?

I doubt this will help since I haven't had this problem personally. If you aren't getting a code from your own reader take it to a Kragen or Autozone or some place where they can read the code for you. If they don't get anything, beyond waiting for someone on here to provide an answer I would probably be forced to go to the dealer.

You could check all the wheel speed sensor wires. See if any are broken with visual inspection. Beyond that if you have a Toyota-Platinum warranty it might be covered after diagnosis. Good luck...let us know what the problem and solution turn out to be.

Bump

While we're at it ever since I did the pads/rotors on this car it has zero stopping power. The pads just dont bite for ****. The pads and rotors were OEM. You just dont get a reassuring feel from the brakes and need to really step on it to get it to stop.

Bled the brakes a month later to make sure everything was good and it made zero difference.

bad booster maybe, or could ur calipers seizing,? it might be worth a check to see if the pads have uneven wear.

I actually had a buddy at a local subaru shop give it a whirl and his scanner pulled 2 codes

C1223 Malfunctioning ABS System
and
C1246 Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor

The code actually went off on its own, on the way to the dealership Lol isnt that typical but the codes were still stored.

He cleared them and we drove about 60 miles since. They have stayed off so far. We'll see how long that lasts.

The brakes work but before this light came on the brakes did lose their bite and feel. I cant remember exactly when it happened but the car used to have strong initial bite and a brake pedal pressure and feel that was more german car. It was great, the best "feeling" brakes of any sub under 50k I've driven.

The brakes still work but The best way to describe the brakes are they feel like an american truck. Again nothing wrong with em they just arent confidence inspiring and they dont have that bite at initial appication.

I have heard of many of these cars getting seized calipers but I dont see any noticible uneven pad wear yet.

I had the same annoying problem a year ago in my 2007 with about 50K miles. The dealer kept getting codes like ABS and Master Cylinder malfunctions.

Performance-wise the brakes were fine and so was the ABS.

Long story short, after repeated trips to the dealer and having them clear the codes on each visit; the lights would all come back on after a week or so and stay on.

Next the dealer replaces the master cylinder and brake booster (a $2300 repair covered under my extended warranty). Well, a week or so after getting the new master cylinder and brake booster...................you guessed it........the lights were back on!!!!!

As it turns out what finally did the trick was a $10 replacement of a bad brakelight switch. The lights have not come back on in over a year, so I think that was it.

A bit of a hassle, but I got a new brake system out of the deal for free....thank you Toyota!!

Hopefully yours will be a cheap repair like mine was.
