Zombie Apocalypse

You would take a saw or 240 over the m2? Obviously you have not used a .50... I have used all three "in country" and by far I would take the .05. An ammo can for a .50 holds 200 rounds, and thehe 240 ammo can only holds 200 as well, so their is no difference. Sure .50 weighs more, but its raw power is over 4x that of a 7.62. And lest not forget that you can get APHE rounds for the .50 as well as depleted uranium that will penetrate armor plating and keep going... IMO the .50 is the best weapon system to have mounted -keep the saws and 240s for dismounted use... Best option would be the CORWS.

I too have used all three weapons systems in country. While I agree with you about everything you've said about the .50, think about this:

When attacked by the durka-durka, or anyone else for that matter, if you fire a huge weapon such as a .50cal, the sound of that weapon is going to frighten them more than anything. It's been scientifically proven that sound is more frightening to people than anything. Hence, when you come home from a deployment, you hear a boom from arty or a tanks that are doing training missions, you flinch. Well, at least I do...(Damn PTSD.)

Now, if you are facing a hoard of undead, the sound is going to have no effect on them. It's not going to frighten them away, but rather attract them to the noise. Not to mention, most encounters of undead are going to be in close proximity to to you or your vehicle. Fire that Ma Duce close to the windows and watch what happens to them.

The Max effective range of the M2 is 2 clicks with a tripod mount, and 1830 meters vehicle mounted. While the Max RANGE is 6.8 clicks, the odds of hitting something at that range are slim to none. When are you going to use the depleted uramium? I wouldn't want to risk those around myself, or other survivors, the half life of it would it too long. The APHE rounds, OK, I could see that.

The Max effective range of a M240 is 1100 meters vehicle mounted, 800 meters for a area target, and 600 meters for a point target. Plus, it weighs 50 lbs less than a M2. Sure, they both come with 200 round cans, but the weight of the cans is what's going to matter. PLUS, the 240 also has AP rounds.

Sure, the Ma Duce can reach out and touch somebody, but the odds of you needing that power are slim to none. Not to mention, if the vehicle becomes disabled, you can't just grab the .50 and go. You can with the 240.

As far as the 249, it has the same properties as the M4. Same max effective got both point and area targets. So why not have the option of taking those rounds, and slapping the mag into the 249 if you need to? Or, if you're holed up somewhere, and you need M4 rounds, take them off the 249 belt and fill up your mags.

This is a survival sutiation. Like I said, I DO NOT disagree with you about the .50 as a superior weapons system, just not the superior weapons system for the survival situation we would be facing.

Well being infantry I'm all about f*cking sh*t up and if I'm gonna have a weapon mounted its gonna be a .50. The ability to destroy an entire city block from one point is ideal for me... And being able to reach out and touch someone or thing from a distance that allows you to not only remain virtually unseen or detected while allowing relatively easy egress and pluny of time to disappear and hide before they can reach your position sounds ideal to me. I would still want both saws and 240s as backups, but they would serve more as a support and fast Mobility weapon system function. True .50 vs 240 ammo in weight is a big difference and its much easier to pack 7.62 than .50. But we are talking about these on vehicles, not our backs... Bottom line I'd be happy with pretty much anything I was given and would adapt and make do

This is all code for Obama welfare voters, right? The living dead.

OBAMA PHONE. I GOT ME A OBAMA PHONE! Romney Sux!

You be all about "f*cking sh!t up." Just remember, if you're there, you're probably not the only one not infected. Collateral damage. Like I said. It's a survival situation. There is strength in numbers. :)

Whoa there, those are some pretty brave words esp. for a guy in a batman outfit; I'd of opted for a Superman outfit or the cape at least.

These are some freakin nerds with serious gun issues. PTSD, talk'n bout f*cking sh*t up and all.

When all this sh*t goes down make sure I'm not standing next to you. I don't think they'll wait to see if your going to gnaw on some dudes face. Pretty sure they're the shoot first and if there are any survivors, then shootem again type.

As I hope I speak for all civvies, I appreciate and thank all service men past and present for what you do.

Who says you gotta be military to have a unhealthy addiction to guns and like to "**** **** up". Musta been military in some past life, cause I stand right there with ya

Doc we need to team up. I'm thinking about buying a 3/4ton trailer for meant for the humvee, gonna turn it into a badass bug-out trailer. I'm thinking fuel supply, food, water, tools, Maybe even a power source, water pump stuff like that lol.

Just make sure if SHTF you stop by HP306 and grab me!

You're gonna need more than a 2.7L 4 cylinder to pull one of those 3/4 ton mil trailers. Those things are huge.

Nah, it'll work. Not the dump version, just the flat frame. They aren't very heavy. M116 Chassis: Trailer, Cargo, 3/4 ton.

780lbs is pretty light for a 3/4ton trailer IMO. Granted it'll weigh much more once I get it all done, but I'm not concerned. I've got a dump trailer that holds almost 2 cubic yards, 4runner pulls it just fine. No fussy. I can't imagine a bug out tailer weighing more than that.

Without sacrificing opsec, lets just say. If I did need anything, I'd be gone before it got here. But anyways, I'm done with this place, just sitting on leathernuts buying my time.

You mean LeJeune Forward? Bahahaha!

Good. When you get back, we definately need to meet up. Shoot me the dates for you when you get home and I'll meet ya there when ya get off the bus with a nice cold one.

Then, when ya get done with your family and all that, we'll go hit the trails at Uwharrie..:biggrin2: :guitar2:
