Edit: Used Hawk Pad on all my drift cars. Plenty of bite but some noise (worth it for the bite IMO). Doesn't look like they have a 4runner option tho.

I tried to get the TRD performance brake pads when I ordered my 2017 TRD Pro but was told they were not available, anyone have that same experience? Also thought about the TRD radiator cap (literature said it held slightly higher pressure) but I didn't do that, can't remember why.

I "upgraded" my pads and rotors all the way around to the EBC yellowstuff brake pads and EBC oem rotor replacements. Worst decision ever. The yellowstuff brake pads squeel SO. DAMN. LOUD. They grooved the rotors out pretty bad. I ended up having the front rotors re-surfaced even though I had only put like 1500 miles on them and then threw out the front EBC pads and put in some OEM toyota pads. Once I have enough funds, I am going to replace the rotors and rear pads back to OEM. Still squeels extremely loud when the brakes are cold. Once warmed up its fine. But I live in a very quiet neighborhood and you can hear the squeel from so damn far away.

I drove the tahoe for 14 years so I got reeeeeaaallly used the breaks, and adjusting to the toyota pedal response took some time to get used to. Do break pads change the pedal response at all, or simply add stopping power or shorter stopping distances? I am looking to change pads at the next oil change in about 4k miles and wonder what brand and type to buy? I occasionally tow an aluminum boat that maybe weighs ~700lbs with the trailer, so nothing heavy duty, but still want reliable breaks that will last for a long time. Any of the pads on Amazon worth while?

I went Akebono, I'll never do anything else. And I have more experience with brakes than I want to remember right now. It was the perfect pad to correct all the shortcomings of the stock pads or other aftermarket pads I tried.

Totally gave the brakes more bite at less pedal pressure which is what the T4R needs so that it brakes like a normal vehicle.

There is nothing you can to that will add "stopping power" other than tires. The brakes have more than enough friction available to stop all 4 tires from spinning at any time. The limit is the tire's friction with the road surface. You will not improve stopping distance at all.

Different pads and rotors may change the feel of the brake system. Meaning they make more friction with less pressure so it will brake more with less pedal pressure.

They will not stop faster nor will they make it safer. No brake upgrade will improve performance unless you're overheating the brakes until the point of brake fade. More aggressive pads have no benefit in that respect. Only larger rotors that can either act as a larger heat sink, have more surface area to dissipate heat, or be made of materials that operate better at higher temps - like ceramic discs.
