Calling All Kings: an informational survey

Mine is still pretty harsh (non-adjustable). I had factory springs and changed out for another but still no difference. It feels lighter in the back vs the front-which is riding pretty good. Not sure next steps if any.

I don’t know if I would if I were in your shoes being that all they do is get stiffer, I leave mine on the softest setting at all times and it’s stiff

How many settings does the rear adjusters have ? I’m thinking since I don’t have adjusters, what setting is it comparable too?

Both front and rear have 24 clicks from softest to firmest, I couldn't tell you where the non adjustable shocks land in comparison

So replacing to rear adjusters will not benefit me if I wanted to go softer. Thanks

nope.

Honestly, i think you need different springs, maybe progressive springs not linear springs might help. As you can see in my previous post, i changed out my springs, and it got rid of the harshness (although it is now really firm). As somone mentioned way back in the beginning of the thread, you want your springs to do most of the work, and your shocks to take the edge off...not the other way around. I currently have my clickers set at zero, and it feels like a sports car (if i jump on my bumper it barely budges). If i set it at full firm or 24 or whatever it is..if i jump on my bumper, it won't even budge....lol.

Honestly, i think kings 550lb springs is too low, and toytec springs is utter trash. If you are cranking up the preload in the front, you need a heavier spring up front (600 w/ no weight, 650 w/ weight). For the rear, i'd look into some progressive coils (not linear), such as Robinson's, or eibachs.... you will be happier.

haha great....i have a set of HD toytecs in the garage to use when we do longer trips with lots of weight.

sell it. I'm in love with my Dobinson's man..... Made my truck driveable again. Kings 700 in front and Dobinson's in the rear, gave me a 1/2inch rake towards the front with no added (non static) weight (camping equipment, girl friends, etc) with no preload. I figure with my fridge, and fully geared up for camping or even 4 adults in the vehicle, the vehicle will level out.

Seriously, i think the toytecs are crap springs Before all that weight i added, way back in 2016, i remember my rear's would bounce over bumps and would bottom out on the bump stops, but i refuse to believe that i bought utter crap for springs. So i upgraded the bump stops, and that helped a little. I added more weight, and believe it or not that helped, but now i have a sagging butt. I added airbags and that helped even more...so that all pointed towards the toytecs being poop. 5 years later, i gave up and bought new springs and now happy as i can be.

I currently have 600lb front springs and I required 10 turns drivers side to achieve 3.5”. 7 turns to achieve same on passenger side.

I currently have gobi rack, ladder, rsg sliders and soon c4 low pro winch bumper & winch. I do feel that I’ll need to update to 650 or 700 lbs as I’ll probably sag.

As for the rears I have icon 158506, 2” springs. Not sure what type of springs these are as I got them used.

Any side pics? Installing pretty much the same setup this weekend except with c59-327s.

So basically this is the best pic i can get. 3 inch lift up front (with zero preload) and basically 4 inches in the rear. So i have a 1 inch rake, but currently the vehicle has full armor, and a drawer system in it. Fridge and 2nd battery is not in the vehicle currently, and it has no camping equipment. I'm happy with it right now, i figure once loaded up i will lose the rake. Only reason i noticed the rake is because i measured it, and my headlights are kind of pointed downwards.

On road, it is very firm, since the vehicle now is overstrung. However, I don't hit the bump stops ever, which is one of the goals of the suspension over haul. Basically, it feels like a sports car on stilts. Just know running it with 700lb springs in the front and 600-800 springs in the rear, unloaded will give you a stiff ride, but its not jarring. So what i am sacrificing is slow speed comfort.

Thanks, that's pretty much exactly what I needed to see. Was your goal to have a slight factory rake even when loaded with gear? Or to have it completely level out? Any specific reason you didn't go with the variable rate Dobinsons like the 677V or 701V?

I think you affirmed my decision to go with 327s for my build. 700lb Kings up front and 329s sound like a solid pairing so my 650lb and 327s should pair well. Hope I just don't regret not getting the variable rate springs...

slight rake with no camping load. no reverse rake when vehicle loaded out with camping gear or 4 passengers. No bottoming out when offroading. No messing with preload. i also didn't want to rely on my airbags (which have since been removed w/ the installation of the 329 rear coils)

I got tired of the cali lean when fully loaded out and bottoming out when offroading. Moab and Mojave road taught me i rather be a little overstrung vs undersprung, when the terrain can change very quickly, and at speed.

i went with the 329s because i have KDSS, so no variable rate springs for me.

i think you will be fine with 650's and 327s, and it will give you some room if you want to add more weight to either end of your 4runner.

- Year, model: 2016 4Runner SR5
- Compression Adjusters: yes
- KDSS: no
- Spring rate: 650lb
- Preload: 8/8
- Height increase: Not measurements atm, but was aiming for 3"
- Major weight upgrades: Roof Rack, RTT, Sliders, Full Size Spare + carrier, aluminum front skid

Rides firm, but that's what I wanted. Previous setup was way too mushy for the weight I have and would nosedive on braking. Should soften up a little when I install my C4 lopro next week.

Rear springs are Dobinsons C59-327. Slightly wish I got heavier/higher coils for the rear since its sitting pretty level without a lot of my camping gear in it, but im also hoping the C4 lopro addition will help with this as well.

- 2015 Trail no KDSS
- 25001-278-EXT-A: front ext travel w adjusters and 550 lb x 14" coils (adjusters at 2 clicks from soft)
- 25001-279-EXT-A: rear ext travel w adjusters and Dobinson's C59-677V 3"+ coils (adjusters at 2 clicks from soft)
- Preload: D=12 & P=10
- Height increase: Front 23" D&P (3" increase over stock at 20") - Rear 25" D&P (3.5" increase over stock at 21.5")
- Major weight upgrades: Aluminum front bumper (60 lbs) w/ 10K winch (90 lbs), Aluminum rear bumper (80 lbs) Aluminum Full Skids (100 lbs), steel sliders (160 lbs), steel roof rack (80 lbs), misc (+/- 130 lbs) = +/- 700 lbs

- comments based on previous suspension iterations: stock > Bilstein 5100's > Toytec ultimate w/ superflex:
1) HWY (285 KO2 @ 40-42 psi) comfortable and controlled with front/rear sway bars intact at 60-80 mph. feels planted to the ground, best adjective i can think of is it "glides" over even rough/dippy hwy terrain with improved damping (less bounce/roll)
2) City & CR (285 KO2 @ 40-42 psi) a lot of time at 50-60 mpg on curvy/rutted 2 lane roads in central TX, confidence in handling greatly improved from prev setups. significantly less (still mildly noticeable) cabin shake & steering vibration in washboard areas even with tires at full pressure
3) Off-road: (285 KO2 @ 16-18 psi): will hold comments and update after future fun times, haven't gotten to play enough yet :( too much rain and not a big muddin' guy ha. i think i will remove at least the rear sway bar on my next outing
4) Towing: Airstream Bambi Sport (cute name right?): 16'/3K lb trailer 350 lb tongue weight without weight distribution system or rear airbags. it is a relatively light load to haul and is almost easy to forget is behind you. basically, i have to remind myself to drive easy so as not to abuse Bambi. minimal static sag in the rear (approx .75")

Hey man, old ass post quote, I know, however are you running limit straps with 3" coils in rear? Just found a set of 25001-279A EXTs and I'm running icon variable rate coils. Pretty sure I'm good but real world experience is well... king???

I have been running 650 pound springs up front with a low pro bumper and synthetic line winch. It is def oversprung.

I've 550 springs now with no bumper/winch but with full skids and sliders. Would you recommend 600 springs with a low pro bumper? Would you have kept 650s with a full front bumper and winch?

Not using any limit straps, haven't had a problem, but I don't know enough about the specs and actual numbers to say whether they could be useful
