3rd member gasket or just RTV

What's going on all I was wondering for those your removed or changed your 3rd member did you use a gasket or just used gasket marker I have a cork gasket but see a lot of folks just using gasket maker, what do you folks recommend.

I've always used a factory gasket with a very thin coat of RTV both sides and never had a leak. And I've pulled diffs a lot.

With or without Gasket, never had a leak with Black Silicone Gasket Maker! I always degrease surfaces just before applying silicone. I've done dozens over the years. If you choose to use gasket do silicone both sides like said above.

I welded a new back plate unto a housing and used just a gasket. However, i have a micro seep because of metal warpage. I always just use RTV from now on. Now if you don't weld on the axle housing...You maybe fine with just a gasket but I will never risk it again.

I always use a gear oil specific rtv. Zero leaks or issues.
