Time for tires and suspension. Need opinions/advice

My tires are getting worn and winter is almost here. I have 110k on the stock shocks. It's time for some replacements.

I have decided on the Blisten 5100s. They seem like a decent shock and have good reviews. I'm not looking for a monster lift.

Tires I am leaning towards the Goodyear silent armours(snow is a big concern, recommendations welcome). I bought these for the old lady's xterra last year before winter and I like them so far.

As far as sizes go do I stick with the 265/65/17 stocks size or go a smidge larger. I don't plan on doing any more lifting than what the blistens will give me.

I plan on ordering the blistens from Toytech unless someone else recommends otherwise.

Tires I can get through my local shop for a decent price.

Let me know what you guys think.

If you're lifting at all might as well bump up to 265/70/17. Looks better, won't hurt performance much, and in my limited experience these tires are sometimes cheaper than 265/65/17 because it's a more common size.

Don't know much about highway tires. Perhaps consider an AT if snow is that important. There are endless debates about tires here. FWIW, I am getting Toyo Open Country AT2's because I have heard great things about how they perform in the snow and I will be in the mountains all winter.

Cooper AT3 perhaps something to look into, cheaper and seem to be well-reviewed (I wanted a more aggressive look).

The Silent Armor is a tire I want to try.

The Cooper AT3 is probably the best AT on the market right now. I'd give them a look.

Can i get away with the 265/70/17 if I only lift the front just to level out the truck? I dont plan on lifting the rear at this time.

Yes. you may have to remove the mudflaps, depends on if you run wheel spacers.

I have 2.5 ish front and 2ish rear and still rub on the mudlfaps and had to move the fender liner forward with 265/75/16 (same as 265/70/17) but no real trimming required and would be better without the wheel spacers

Also, I got mine (all 4) a few days ago from Down South Motorsports for $309 shipped. From reading this forum their normal price of $319 is one of the best deals, so I felt really good about the price.

I found Down South Motorsports was the best priced as well. Super fast shipping was a bonus.

They are $313 from Wheelers Offroad.

Actually, I bought the 5100s for the front only for $170 then used a cheaper option for the rear since they are all valved almost identically anyway. So I actually ended up with front and rear shocks for $250.

The front 5100s feel identical to the OEM shocks that were on there so I didn't want to waste coin for rear 5100s when any aftermarket shocks would do.

I'm running the 265/70r17 Cooper AT3 Purchased from Discount Tire. Free shipping. $165 each I think.
I put them on BEFORE I Installed my lift to see if I would need one. I DID NOT. No rubbing no ill affects. Drives great. But I did buy and install a daystar 2.5/1.5. ONLY BECAUSE I WANTED TO. I have them on the stock Limited wheels no spacers.

Can you post up the shock dynos of these more affordable shocks that are 'almost identical' to the. 5100 rear shocks? This would really help future searchers save some $$.

Cool! Just ordered from downsouth! Saved me some cash. Maybe now I should get FJ springs or just a daystar rear lift 1.5?

Is this what I want for the rear since I can adjust my fronts?

Daystar? - Driven by Design

That will work if you raise to 2.5, but if you go that high you are likely to ultimately need new UCA's which will run about $400. Some do, some don't but plan on upgrading when they can, and I think very few don't get UCA's and stick with it, but I'm not sure. I didn't want to "risk" it so i went to 1.75. 1.5 in the rear may maintain too much rake, but that is personal preference.

Evan B did 1.75 front and 1.5 Daystar in rear originally, see if you like that: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/134292-evan-bs-2006-limited.html

I decided to go with a Cornfed rear spacer at 1" to take just a little more of the rake out. Results TBD

You should not need UCAs with a 2.5" lift.

Ill just get the 1.5" and no FJ springs for now.

So i will get 2.5 up front with the blistens and stock springs and 1.5 in the back with spacers. That shout get me pretty level right?

True. He had mentioned FJ springs so I thought he was doing that as well, but now I see he was only considering it.

Even so, you really wont see much lift from the FJ springs, i wouldn't worry about UCAs IMO
