Thanks guys,
Folks are welcome to remove their entire intake manifold system and replace the pump, valves etc. This is typically more than most folks want to tackle when there is a EASY fix for a system that will only fail again.
I chose to bypass as it is more reliable and "permanant" fix compared to replacing the other component.
10mins and $50 vs 4-5 hours and $1,000+
Bypass is clear choice for most folks.
Hell I'd tell the recent guy that replaced everything to STILL do the bypass

hey sly,
I just found out about this thread after I had my truck throw on the code P2445 this morning. I see different codes being mentioned around this issue (P1445,P2440 etc.) on this thread and on other forums. Do you think the bypass kit would help me with 2445? It reads as secondary pump being jammed and the shop quoted $800 to replace the pump and module. I'd like to not spend that if I can.
Thanks!
edit: I just found this video and these codes all seem related to the same thing..

Yeah, 2445 easily defeated by bypass.

Glad to see this Thread has been useful for so many. Almost 8 years with this kit installed and since I made this thread, never an issue.
@ slyfox75
Keep it up

Aaaand.....my 2006 secondary AIP just grenaded and threw bits and pieces downstream. $2600 to fix. Glad my other two 4Runner's are a 2003 and 2004.
With respect to the bypass kits, are they very easily removable and replaceable for the biannual smog inspections we have here in LA County, Commiefornia?

Ouch. So you had been running without a bypass kit I assume?
To answer your question, Yes. I bet you'd pass a visual with them installed.
There are videos online on the Slyfox and other companies install kits if you want to check it out before committing.

If you did a clean job and taped/tucked all the wiring, you will pass smog no problem.
I have had the Slyfox kit in for several years and have had a smog check In SoCal without any issues. You don't need to remove it.

AWESOME good to know, I paid the premium for the RuTech solution as I didn't mind paying an extra $100 premium for complete OEM looking device and ease of install. I don't think ANY smog tech will be able to tell this is not an OEM part unless they are intimate with this Mod and engine.

kit is awesome, so glad to have found this solution..
I didnt go out of my way to hide things per se, pushed and ziptied to back wall of the engine compartment, you can see there is a wire there though, its not hidden behind anything and you can see it routed to the cable coming out of MAF.. tucked the wires into the original sleeve and everything but its clearly not a "OEM" job
you think thats an issue?

I fired up my 4runner this morning and heard a vacuum for the first time. It went away after 10 seconds or so. No CEL no loss of power. I have read the first few pages and last few pages of this thread. It seems like I have caught the problem early but I do want to address this. It's a 2008 V8 4Runner with ~150k miles. I am looking for a plug and play solution if at all possible. Many of the early thread links to tundrasolutions are broken. I googled v8 4runner secondary air injection bypass and landed on hewitt tech, rutech, and slyfox pages to learn more.
Hewitt tech confused me more with various add-ons and generations. It looks like it also needs a signal from the starter relay. Their customer service indicated that I start with a Gen1 module and might need a pump proxy or pressure addon in the future, assuming I don't need emissions testing (I am in Mass; there is no tailpipe testing however I am not sure if the OBD plug could be an issue). If emissions is required they indicated I would need a Gen2 system.
Rutech looks to be pure plug and play, but no starter relay signal.
Slyfox looks to require cutting and splicing some wires but is by far the most economical.
There are no mentions of pump proxies or pressure modules from either rutech or slyfox as far as i can see.
Can I ask the fine folks here to guide me on what makes the most sense?

Go with
@ slyfox75
, as you mentioned his is the most economical, he includes very easy to follow instructions and if I'm not mistaken he will also help by phone if necessary, and I have never heard of anyone not being satisfied and his seems to work every time.
Not so with the other two you have mentioned, I have read of others having issues on both of those from time to time,
I have "mentioned" slyfox above in my reply so he should be notified see this and give you some input from his end.

Yep, Im here to help as needed. Reach out and we can discuss. But if you don't have codes yet.....YOU WILL. The systems get more and more problematic until you have bigger issues. The sooner the bypass is in place the better off you will be.
