Silver trim on roof rack, front and back bumber on 2004 SE

Is there a significance to the silver trim on the roof rack and both front and back bumpers on some earlier 4th gen 4Runners? My SE v8 has the silver trim but I notice some of the same year models are all the same color as the rest of the car. Was that just another consumer color option or is the silver trim exclusive to certain models?

Which do you like better. All same color or silver trim?

my 03 had the silver trim. didn't like it at all so painted it all.

The silver middle section of the bumper, roof rack and running boards were on certain years of Sport Editions and Limiteds.
 
older. only for the 03-05 model limiteds and sport editions. however the sport editions only had the silver bumper inserts, and roof rack. they still had the black colored running boards, only the limiteds were painted silver....


on second thought, it may only be 03-04. perhaps someone else can chime in with a more definite answer.

SA, I think it is 03-04. the 05 had colored.

my 03 limited came with black running boards. i'm not sure i've ever seen silver ones?
 
My 03 Sport has the silver trim on both the front and rear bumper, with black running boards. I don't like the silver trim. Both my front and rear bumpers need repainting due to scratches, so I am going to have them color matched when I do it. I would actually like to paint my roof rails black to match the running boards.
 
My 03 Limited has silver trim inserts for the front/rear bumper, silver roof racks and silver running boards.

I personally like the silver trim - especially how it offsets my ss bull bar and hitch step.
 
I'm looking to paint the silver trim on the front and rear bumper of my 2004 SR5. I was wondering if anyone has used a spray can to do it? I can get the exact paint color from Automotive Touch Up. Do you guys think this would look good and not chip easily?
 
2003-2004 SR5's: Front and rear silver bumpers, black roof rack and running boards
2003-2005 Sports: Front and rear silver bumpers and silver roof rack, black running boards
2003-2004 Limiteds: Front and rear silver bumpers, silver roof rack and silver illuminated running boards
2005 SR5's: Colored front and rear bumpers, black roof rack and running boards
2005 Limiteds: Colored front and rear bumpers, black roof rack and black illuminated running boards.

The only exception to the silver bumpers is if you got Dorado Gold as a color, then the bumpers were painted gold.

Early 2003 SR5 and Sports had gray plastic front and rear bumpers so no silver trim on those. But those early 2003 Sport Editions had silver painted front grilles, door handles and rear license plate trim piece.
