Depending on tire size and lift amount be prepared to loose 2 mpg.
is it poser to put a lift and big tires on a 2WD?

No but in the case of modding a vehicle beyond stock with very specific parts to be used for off roading but never actually go off roading that's being a poser. I'm not saying it in a bad way but it is what it is.
There's a guy in my neighborhood with a lifted '09 FJ with major mud tires,sliders,armored bumper and fogs and even a jack and shovel on his roof rack and he's never gone beyond a gravel road with it. (I know this cause I've tried to get him to go off road and he doesn't do that he said)
That's being a poser to me.
Hummers are the factory equivelent of being a poser right off the showroom floor...........

90% of Lifted trucks don't see the dirt, as said it is yours so customize it to your likes.
I have adjustable 5100 to level my TUNDRA and looks nice, 4x2 with A/T TIRES.
Would I go off road if required, yes; would I go rock crawling with it, heck no!
The other option for me would have been OME COILOVERS to level again.
I think that struts and coil overs are more functional then blocks to help you decide on which to go with on the 4runner. IMO!

True, he should do what he wants.
But, what eskimochaos was discussing was in reference the OP's question... aka, the reason he made the thread in the first place. "is it poser to put a lift and big tires on a 2WD?". And since the OP did indeed say nothing about offroading, its poser. That is why it should have sh!ts given about it.
But poser doesn't matter, that just others' opinions. Do what you want, go with YOUR opinion.

In a way I think it would be poser-ish. You're in it just for the looks. But I think it'd be okay for you to do this as long as you're not putting 4x4 badges on it, or something that literally says it is what is not. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. I don't know if that many people do it in the truck world but with the cars, it's unbelievable. Gotta back up what you're broadcasting. But if you're just in it for the looks and that's all you care about/plan on doing (wheels/tires), then go for it!

poser has a lot of terms and people use them differently, but I have a nice lifted 4x4, and I dont go out tearing it up, I have a shrockworks on the way, but I wont go rock crawling or mudding. I dont even like going through tight trails to try not to scratch the paint for no good reason. So I may be a poser. I built the 4runner to go out to the ranch and our land where deer/hogs are everywhere and those things arent fun to play chicken with. Also the trails to get out to the cabin are pretty tricky even in stock form, and if its rained at all good luck with a 2wd even with a locker. So thats what mine is built for.
I dont like tearing my vehicle up or making it look like a trail rig since its my my daily driver, its a nice truck and I paid a lot of money for it, I dont like tearing something up for no good reason, but thats just me-

when it comes down to it, you have to ultimately do what makes YOU happy, it's your truck, there is a huge trend of 2wd with lifts, they are called prerunners, even if you want to go offroad, know your limits and capabilities, there is nothing in my owners manual that said, with 4wd you won't get stuck. go for it, and good luck!

I have a 2WD, and I put a Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer kit on it. It almost never goes offroad, but I frankly didn't like the look of the stock suspension stance, so I changed it and did a mild tire upgrade to 265/70/17. It's a great compromise and I think gives a really nice look without killing driveability much, if at all.
There's nothing "poser" about that.
I personally think it would be dumb to upgrade to a complete adjustable coilover suspension, etc. with a 2WD unless you were honestly taking your 2WD offroad, which can be done, though isn't ideal. I just wanted to change the stance, so I went with a spacer lift.
I don't know that I'd put an ARB bumper on it, I think that would be a bit silly, but to each their own. A guilty admission is that I DO want to put some sliders on my truck, for the sole reason that I hate the sport tube steps and I dont really like the way 4Runners look "naked", and I do like the look of sliders.
...I dunno if I can bring myself to do it, though.

I agree. A lift is great for being able to see over traffic and make slow, old ladies get out of the way. :biggrin2:
UMMM...YEAH! thats like the losers that make low riders out of 4x4's. but if it makes you happy, do it! i dont think it would be good on your tranny/gears etc,
Anybody cares to comment on that? I thought the only downside was a worse mpg ratio.

It will add a little extra strain but the main issue is it will change where you are at on your power band. Making your engine work a little harder to get going, hence the lower MPG. The minor changes we make in tire Diameter really isn't going to cause significant wear on gears, transmission Engine. Now if he had a crew cab Ford and was putting 10" of lift and going from factory 31" tire to a 44" tire then yes he would have to worry about being Poser and also additional wear on parts.
It doesn't matter if he is 2wd or 4wd a 2-3" lift and a 1-3" tire size difference will be fine. The additional wear would affect the same so I guess all of us with 4wd that lifted and increased tire size are all going to blow up our tranny's and gears. Hmm guess I shortened the life of my truck from 350k to 300k by my mods...LOL. Actually if you want to think of it the 2wd should cope easier with the lift and tire increase since it doesnt have all the other added weight and resistance of the T-case, front drive shaft, differential, CV's.

You should also think about the re-sale value. Not too many people would want to buy
a lifted 2WD SUV.
