Land Meter - anyone use one of these?

Didn't know it existed until I was browsing through this guy's Flickr photostream and this Land Meter gauge contraption was mounted in the foreground of his photo:

Still searching, but so far only seeing them sold overseas. I like the concept.

Those who drive 1st Gens are very familiar with these--they were an option from the factory in those early Runners.

I lived in Japan for 3yrs and I saw quite a few of these come as standard equipment on just about every 4WD sold there. Even my Delica, which is a van version of the Montero had one! I've also seen a few aftermarket digital ones, but I don't remember the brands. They're out there!

hmm that reminds me I have one I need to pull from a montero that has the real compass, an altimeter, digital temperature and I think angle?

Smittybilt sells one for $15, I think. Or if you want retro, you can find ones parted from a 1st or 2nd gen 4Runner on EBay for around $100:

I've seen them in Monteros and Troopers too.

a little advice though? the montero sr gauge is pretty damn big... like I dunno where to mount it big.

Does anyone have a picture of the Smittybilt clinometer mounted on a 3rd gen? I would like to get one but I am trying to get a feel for how big it is and where it can be mounted.

Smittybuilt also has a pretty nice smart-phone app called Clinometer. With a nice cell phone mount it works great!

this is just like the one I have but the two outer ones are switched. I gotta go play with it and see where it could go. turns out they are separable.

damn I just found out that thing has an air locker and compressor too.

The locker probably won't do you any good, but hang on that compressor - that wants to go under your hood.

Ill have to see if he will let me grab some more stuff off of it. I was originally going to buy the whole thing about two years ago because I wanted a project and 4wd. I was getting $400 together when some dumb ass kid backed into the side of it with his jeep.

just like this one actually. I gotta pull the compass box and get myself a pair of temp sensors then figure out where to mount it.

oh did I mention it has inside and outside temps? digital compass, altimeter, and clinometer? I r not jealous of you now.

its still cool though cause yours is factory.

just looked at mine. damn curved dashes. I think it should fit right above the glovebox area. :/
