So I changed my tranny fluid today. I couldn't get the fill plug off, so I just drained it (it looked like mud) and put roughly 3-3.2 quarts in through the shifter. As far as my gears poping out (1st is doing it now too smh), I am pretty sure it is the seat that's causing the issue. Mine is tearing up, and there were little pieces of rubber everywhere. The grease on the shift lever is also from 1985, so it was all chunky and hard, so that wasn't helping. I cleaned it up, put some new grease, and ordered a marlin crawler seat, so now I have to just wait for that!
On another note, I wonder if an exhaust leak can cause CEL code 12 to happen... cause I have one of those lol

been forever since i posted here so i thought i might give a little update.
since I last posted, a few major things have happened (nothing good).
i ended up rebuilding the tranny since 1st, 3rd, and 4th ended up going out. it shifted great after that.
unfortunately a few months ago the headgasket blew! just got finished putting it all back together but now it wont stay running. it cranks and turns over if i spray some starter fluid in the plenum but it wont stay running for more than 2 seconds. its timed correctly, the maf is plugged in, has new gas, everything looks good but i cant figure out whats going on. im gonna make another thread somewhere to try and fix this since this is just an update.

EDIT: ALSO FORGOT TO SAY im most likely gonna end up selling this thing once its running. i ended up getting a Focus RS (much better daily and im heading up to big bear like twice a week so it's super nice for the long drive and snow).
