Some slightly overdue updates-
Disassembled front suspension.
Replacing LCA bushings. OEM Toyota.
Replacing Wheel bearings. Timken, made in Japan, same quality as OEM.
Took them to CVJ axles to do everything. JP did the work. Decent price, but still not cheap.
Working on the LCA components. Had to cut 2 of the seized sleeves, the driver's side slid right out!
To cut the sleeves I used a sawzall and a Diablo carbide toothed blade. It cut through like butter and I made all 4 cuts in about 5 minutes. Will buy those blades again although they were about $15 a piece. OUCH!!!
You'd think that Toyota would not sabotage us like this and put a sticker on the sleeve that is notorious for seizing to the bushings. I took it to the bench grinder and the wire wheel made quick work of cleaning up all of the cam adjusters.
I have bent out my cam adjustment tabs since I never re-inforced them. I had about 1/8th"+ play in all of them.
I could have taken the eas(ier) way out and pounded them back and welded them, but I had already bought the Total Chaos Cam Tab Gussets. I contemplated using them for a long time or fixing the original ones and returning the TC kit.
After examining and comparing the TC to the OEM, I just couldn't resist the upgrade. The TC kit is quality. The cam tab plates are 10 GA thick and the tabs themselves are 1/4". The tabs hold the cams like a glove, touching either side but still able to freely rotate. Like I said, the quality was so great that I couldn't pass up the extra work to use them over the original tabs. It was one of those now or never things.
I took an air chisel to the old cam tabs and stripped them off. No turning back now!
Welding up the cam tabs.
