03 wiper help

Yesterday the snow slid off the top of the truck and hit the windshield wipers and now they will not work on the intermittent setting and the back wiper will not work. I have checked the fuses and even pulled the battery terminals to reset everything and still no luck.

I have looked for a relay and have not found one related to the wipers. This is for an 03 t4r sport.

Hoping someone has some ideas on how to fix this I really don't want to have to take this to the dealership as I do not have a very good relationship with them anymore.

Update...After resetting the window functions and the sunroof the rear wiper started working but still no Intermittent wiper function. Also when you turn the wiper off from the normal and fast settings they will not go back down by themselves they will stay where ever they are at on the windshield.

Kosan I will try that but they work fine on slow and fast but when moved back to the intermittent setting they just stop. I am thinking that it is the wiper switch and that maybe the problem is not actually related to the snow.

Anybody know how to get the switch out of the stearing column?

Not sure I can help on why the intermittent function stopped. Were you in intermittent mode when this happened?

Check the link in my signature to get to my thread on my wiper timing mod. I detailed how to open up the steering column. Be careful with the actual switch if you open it up.
 
Kmvreter, it is actually my wifes car and I don't know if she had them on intermittent when this happend or not. Thanks for the post and the write-ups. If I am seeing this correctly there are only 3 screws to the steering column cover. Should be easy enough to open up and see what is going on.

Does the stalk actually control the intermittent function? Or is there a separate relay somewhere for that.

It's been awhile but 3 screws sounds right.
The resistor inside the switch controls the intermittent. That's how I was able to change the frequency.
I'm thinking you need a new switch or, if you are handy with electrical soldering, then a possible resistor repair on the switch. If you need to ask how then don't go that route.
 
I am somewhat handy at soldering but probably not good enough for this. I guess I will just have to order a new switch. I am going to take it out tonight and see.

Toyota2, did replacing the switch work? I am having the exact same problem. Also, where did you order the switch from?
 
I took the old switch out and cleaned the contacts and that did not help so I have ordered a new switch but it has not come in yet. I will let you know if it works when I get it. I ordered it from partznet.com
 
most likely cause is either switch or wiper transmission.. if you pull up a wiring diagram its really easy to see if the switch is the culprit

I had the exact same thing happen this morning. Snow on the windshield.
The wipers still work on low and high, but not on intermittent. Very annoying!!

Let me know if the new switch fixes things.
Also, if you have a part number, that would be great! Thanks!
 
The same thing happened to my wipers please let me know it the switch is the fix, is there a relay that could have burned out because of the wipers being on the intermittent with all the snow on the windshield.
 
Update, I finally got time to put the new wiper switch on and that took care of the problem. All wiper functions work as they should. So for me the switch was the problem not the transmission.

My wiper switch arm broke once, I replaced it by removing the two plastic covers that fit around the steering column. No need to remove the steering wheel as mentioned in the FSM. Do not lock the steering wheel when you turn off the truck, remove the key however. Turn the wheel a quarter turn right and then left to reveal a screw on the front, remove these two screws along with a screw at the bottom of the plastic cover; then you can remove the two halves and you will have access to the wiper switch arm. Its only held in place with two screws.

How much did the switch cost you?

Also, did you have to remove the steering wheel...or were you able to replace as Cannondale suggests?
 
I believe the switch was $120 and no I did not have to take the steering wheel off just the two plastic halfs around the steering column. There are also a couple little screws that hold the switch in also.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you hope you get it figured out.
