Mike - jump the relay on the SAI and see if it comes on. That is the easiest way to test it. Also make sure you downloaded the RAVE, it will make you life much easier. Good luck.

I've tried finding information on jumping the relay, but didn't come across anything. I pulled it out and connected it directly to the battery and nothing happened. I thought that would work, but I'm wondering if it needs to talk to the ECM to turn on? I'd like to replace it anyway since the bearing is completely toast and sounds like a turbo, and had a makeshift filter in it. When I pulled it out I did find quite a bit of water coming out. I also checked on the vacuum line and couldn't find anything bad. All the lines actually look great, and no cracks or anything. I'm also thinking about picking up a new solenoid.

I really wish the LR forums were a bit better. This forum has spoiled me with all the information and helpful people.

The water pouring out of it was a give away.

That was with the RTE 4-5" with Fox Shox. Required longer drive shafts and a whole lotta other stuff. The tires were Nitto a Trail Grappler, ~34" tire.

Some progress! I started painting the wheels this past week, and now have 3 of them done.

Got 4 of the wheels clear coated last tonight. I might get them on tonight, but not sure. Waiting till tomorrow will allow a little more time for the paint to set.

Got a few more parts in today.

New CD player. I'm going to wire it up and see how it sounds before I put in a new amp and speakers.

Also picked up a switch, wire harness, and plug for the driving lights on the push bar.

Nice looking Disco. I've always been a fan of older LR/RR suv's, despite their reliability. Seems like you picked up a real nice one. I'm interested in the direction you go with it, given the capability of your 4Runner. What's the advantage of swapping wipers from a Discovery I? It definitely looks better with the meatier falkens and the graphite painted wheels.

How is the V8 in that? Seem to have decent power?

Don't listen to the reliability thing. Those issues mainly come for people who don't take care of them. I'm sure I'll run into issues down the road, but you have that chance with anything. We plan on making this into more of an overlander, and my wifes DD. The 4runner is my DD, and I'll take it wheeling when I can. The DII wipers are specific to Rovers only, and have to be ordered online or through the dealer. The DI wipers are generic wipers that can be found anywhere.

The V8 does have some power. It's got a lot more power than the 4runner does. The one thing that I don't like is how everything is power. The one I picked up has a CDL comparable to my 4runner. Gives my the option to lock or unlock in 4hi and 4lo. There's going to be a lot going on in the next 6 weeks. I need to get a sleeping platform/storage done before the end of the year. Once we get back from hiking the AT in June/July we're going to head out west for a month or so. Go from STL to southern California, and up through Washington. Or, go to Washington and on down to Baja.

If I cold have found a Land Cruiser I would have been all over it. I was looking for one for about 4 months, and never came across one that I liked. The Disco II's are very capable as they as stock. I'm not sure if I'll make another blog for the trip our not. I might use my hiking blog to cover the trip out west.

They do have a pretty well documented cylinder liner slipping problem. I was really interested in a 95 Land Rover that came into the shop down the street with slipped liners...guy only wanted $800 and it was really clean. There are such deals out there if you're willing to deal with a replacement motor. My plan was to replace it with a Toyota drivetrain.

That does happen from time to time. I've only heard twice about that causing damage so significant that the motor would need to be replaced. If that ever happens on this, I'll be swapping to a diesel.

Before we left in December to hike the AT I hit a deer. Didn't do a lot of damage, but the insurance company did cut us a $900 check for the damages. NoW that we're back I'm getting a new bump on this beast. Rover parts are expensive here, and cheap in the UK. Even with shipping the UK bumpers are still cheaper than local. Plus the UK bumpers look a lot better, and seem to be a lower profile.

Here's the bumper I just ordered. Plans are on the way for a platform storage area/sleeping area.

The new bumper showed up yesterday! There's no better way to spend a Friday night when the wife is out of town. This only took me about 2 hours in install. About 90% of that time was just to remove the old bumper. I need to pug new plugs on for the lights, and do some minor adjusting.
