04 vs. 06+ grille

I know, I'll probably get my hand slapped on this one for my inability to find much info using the search feature.

In short, I have a 2004 Limited and planned on getting a newer sport edition hood with the scoop and recently found a grill for a 06+ 4Runner.

Here's my question - will that grill fit on my current hood (the 2004) that I have now or will I need to wait to install it with my 06+ hood?

I'm not really looking to do the entire facelift, just the grill and hood are things I'd like to slowly start upgrading. My headlights are fine at the moment with no reason to upgrade.

I want to say I read something about the hood latch being different on the 06+ grills but cannot recall.

Anyone care to chime in?

I've thought about swapping my grille for an updated version from the 06-09, but I don't think it would work. Even if you did the headlight conversion and replaced the hood, even the bumper looks like it's molded differently for 03-05's than it does in the 06 version.

EDIT: It also looks like updating the hood only won't work either, just from looking at the apparent fitments in pictures...

The '03 & 06 hoods are the same, only the grille, headlights, and bumper are different.

I have an '06 grill on my '03. It had to be modified to fit with the bumper, but no modifications are necessary to make it fit the hood.

I plan on getting the headlights, grille from an 06, and just now I'm hearing of these latching problems. What exactly is the problem, and what's the solution?
