Falls, does your headlight switch have 4 positions? My '04 Camry doesn't have the auto on/off, the stalk goes: DRL off, off (DRLs stays on), parking, low beams. I thought the '06 SR-5 I test drove was set up the same way, but I'm not 100% sure. I think the Limiteds are the ones without the option of switching off the DRLs, because the stalk goes: off, parking lights, low beams, auto.
Toyota should set it up like Chevy, my rental the DRL would go off when the parking brake was pulled again and it would beep and ding if you forget to release the parking brake while driving.
I wonder if DRLs can be added on the '06 like the '03-05 with a simple swap of a relay. I don't think DRLs were selected for my special order.

The auto feature for the exterior lights control is a Limited only option. I tried to get it on my Sport and couldn't. I wish Toyota would put the P-Brake to disengage when I put the truck in gear since it doesn't hold my 4Runner anyway. I'm sure one day I'm going to find myself driving down the road with my P-Brake on.

I believe on the SR-5 and Sport Edition, the auto is off only, it doesn't turn on the lights automatically. As far as turning off the lights automatically, it should turn them off when you open the driver's door with the key removed.

You should be able to adjust your parking brake, so it'll hold your truck. If the 4R's rear discs are like other Toyotas, there should be access hole in the hub area of the rear disc to adjust the parking brake.

Should I be concerned? I took it back to the dealer and they gave my 4Runner back to me and told me that they adjusted the P-Brake to spec. I still didn't believe them, so I went over to the new lot and checked a couple of other 4Runners. Everytime I question my service guy, he goes over to the new lot and drives a brand new 4Runner over and we compare that one side by side with mine. We have done this several times for different concerns of mine. They all roll when the P-Brake is set and in gear both "D" and "R".
Also, even though I don't have the 'auto' feature on the control for my exterior lighting like the Limited does, I did have the service guy adjust the timer so that my exterior lights stay on for 60 seconds after I shut my 4Runner down. It helps me to have time to get out of my car, get to the front door of my home, get it opened and get inside before everything goes dark, and if I don't move the control, when I go to start my car, the lights all come back on.

When you PARK your Runner, engage your Parking brake BEFORE you turn off your ignition. Next time you start your Runner (with the P-brake still engaged), your DRL should be OFF until you disengage the P-brake. This was discussed on earlier thread but with the earlier models.

I'll follow up with you on this when I take delivery of my 4R. During my test drive on a '06 V8 Limited demo, it didn't roll after I parked, it was on a slight incline as the dealer's off-site lot that is all dirt. I normally shift into neutral and take my foot off the brake, so all the weight of the vehicle rests on the parking brake rather than the parking gear.
FWIW, my '04 Camry will roll if it don't pull the handbrake all the way up. They seem to vary, I couldn't pull the handbrake more than half way, maybe about 4-5 clicks, on a different Camry at the dealer. I will adjust mine myself next time during a rotation.

i came from the solara... parking brake is a day and night comparison b/w the two. it's somewhat hard to see the parking brake light on when in motion. not as sharp as the instrument panel as it was in sedans/coupes.

I would like to get a stock looking switch ( similar to the diff. lock or the DAC switch ) only a blank one . splice into the drl line so I can turn them off ( at night ) while parked. Had that situation this weekend while off road and had to stop since , so I would'nt be seen there. It was about -8 below so there was no way I was turning of the truck.....lol.
I did try that turning off the truck & putting the parking brake on and restarting . Worked good , but a pain in the but and I don't think that's healthy for the truck of frequent on and off.

Thanks Uneek. I'm going to have them take another look at it. You know, if I press the parking brake all the way to the floor, it does hold my truck. Problem is, I've never had a vehicle that required me to press it all the way to the floor unless it was too loose and needed adjusting. So, onto bigger things. How do you like your new 4Runner? Post some pictures, lets have a look at it. You got a Limited!!! Post a list of the features. Let this '05 Sport owner vicariously enjoy the options you got that were not available to him. Is it 4x4? We had a nice snowfall here in the state over the past few days. I know your Runner is brand new, but you might want to take it out for a ride. This might be our only chance at snow this year unless you're Northern Cal. I'm Southen. I took mine up to Wrightwood Saturday before sunrise so that I could enjoy all the 'fresh' stuff. Congratulations! I'm sure you're lovin it!

I know for the '03-05s it was a simple relay swap, wonder if that's the case.Just to briefly answer, I didn't check to see if my parking brake required going all the way down. This is my second vehicle with that step on/off style brake, so unlike ones that have a seprate way of releasing the brake (handbrakes with the release button), it's hard to tell how far the brake pedal has gone when reapplying the brake. My Camry to go all the way up (handbrake) to hold the car.
Thanks, I'm loving this truck. The best money I've ever spent! Surprisingly, I've been able to sleep prior to and after delivery--still excited nonetheless.

I'm in NorCal... need to drive a couple hours to see snow. But that's definately why I bought the truck, for snowboarding. Looking forward to any meets and meet other fellow 4R owners.
