I like the looks of the 06 TC headunit. Does anyone know if it will fit in an 05 4Runner? The bracketry looks different.

I just installed a 06 scion radio in my 2005 4runner. It happened to come from a tc but I am pretty sure all of the scion headunits are the same. It works with steering wheel controls and exactly how the factory unit worked. However, you can only install it if you have the non-jbl, stock radio.

I don't have the JBL stereo so I think i am going to pick up the 06 radio off ebay as an inexpensive upgrade. Do they work well with IPods??

If you want the cheapest, while getting the best possible quality sound, ipod adapter, buy a USA-Spec pa11 off cardomain.com. It is about $110 shipped. I installed it with the 06 Scion headunit. There are two setting on the pa11. There is playlist mode and direct mode. Playlist mode makes it so you can control 5 playlists as if they were discs in a cd changer. However, it locks the ipod so you can only use these 5 playlists. I chose to put the pa11 in direct mode. This allows me to control the ipod by using the ipod buttons. It also lets me skip/ff a track through the headunit and steering wheel controls. This way, I have access to all of my songs. The Scion headunit works flawlessly with the pa11. It charges the ipod as well. It is also nice to have just one wire going to the bottom of the ipod as opposed to one charging it at the bottom and one plugged into the top. The pa11 plugs right in where the cd changer would be. If you are installing the new headunit, you might as well install this at the same time. Refer to http://www.castulucci.com/projects/carpc/oemnaviaccess/ for instructions on how to take apart the dash. I think I will post pictures of my set up too.

The holder I am using is the black belkin tunedok (to match the ipod and the 4runner ;): ) The actual Usa-spec pa11 is weged nicely behind the flip down compartment directly behind the ipod.

you have to use the 4runner brackets, take the brackets off of the stock HU and put them onto the new scion HU.
I did it in my car, huge improvement.

thanks for all the help..how does the ipod mount work(did it require drilling?) I want the cleanest look possible without trashing the interior with holes and ugly brackets...

I didn't drill anything. You can just fish the wire through the dash and under that little flap by the glove compartment (see picture). The only way to make it look cleaner would have been to drill a hole in to the bottom of the cup holder, which I obviously didn't want to do.

I cant really tell, but for this to work you need the headunit that is ipod ready, or does this work with the standanrd 06 scion hu? thanks for your help

The ipod adapter works with the standard 06 scion head unit. It will also work with many other head units. It just acts as an external cd changer would.

What about an 05 hu and will the cd slot still work or will the ipod take the place of the cd slot?

I installed the 06 Scion HU into my 05 4Runner. I have the same setup as above with the USA Spec PA11-TOY. Works great.

it looks like you were able to get rid of the scion label in the top right corner? is that just the picture or did you actually get rid of it? how did you do it?

It was actually just the flash in the picture. However, since then I used some of my sister's nail polish remover and was able to get rid of "scion." I had to scrub pretty hard and if you look closely you can tell the surface was tampered with, but it looks better than having the word "scion" there.

I notice that on the Scion HU that the song name text is on the screen... does it display song info on both playlist mode and on direct mode? also... I want to connect my bazooka tube to the HU... does the iPod adaptor interfere with that at all? thanks...

I just happened to have an mp3 disc in at the time of the picture. The headunit will not display text with the Usa-spec pa11. You need an adapter to connect a sub (search "scion sub" on ebay, they are about $60) This ipod adapter won't interfere with the sub adapter.
