I know way back when, Sirius and XM were separate companies but now they've merged. I'm certain my 4runner has factory Sirius installed (antenna looks like a baseball diamond right next to the rear view mirror) and the reception is junk, particularly when driving north for some reason. Can I remove the stock antenna and install a regular XM antenna on the roof somewhere for better reception?

Sounds like a Sigma antenna based on your description,does it look like this?

Yes you can use an aftermarket antenna,but double check the connector since back then XM tuners used a different connector than Sirius.
