Geez, if someone wanted to pay me close to $25k for my '09 with 40k miles it would be gone in a half second.
08' 4runner sold to Toyota today. Your thoughts...

One really has to wonder WHY the two prior owners did not want to hold onto this vehicle? Is there something actually wrong with it? Did they buy it and not like the ride, MPG or something else? Did the prior owners have some personal or financial reason (divorce, loss of job, etc) for selling?
I would look LONG and HARD at ALL, DETAILED, SERVICE RECORDS before buying this vehicle. That way the buyer can feel comfortable that they are not buying a problem vehicle.
Just as a point of reference, I talked to a toyota dealership about 20 miles from my house about prices on the 2011's when I was looking to buy. He sent me a price of 31k for a brand new sr5 with leather. It had all the packages you listed above. I would think that you could talk this seller down a bit since you would be the third owner and it has 21k miles. Personally, I would off $26 and see what they say. I'm interested to hear why they are selling.

Is there any evidence of increased demand of 4th gen models over new 5th gens? In other words, are buyers looking at 5th gens with disgust because of all of the decontenting that was done and turning to 4th gens instead?

Auto shipments from Japan have just stopped (due to the Nuke plant disaster and Tsunami destruction)for many models including all of the Lexus brand. Not sure if the 4 Runners are stopped but the dollar/yen valuation is going to make all Japanese imports a little more expensive. This will raise the value of used imported Japanese vehicles.
I'm thinking of posting my 2008 Limited with 42k and new tires on Craigs List for $29,999 and see what happens.

yea i think this is one major reason along with what was also said above about ppl looking at the 5th gens and being disgusted with them and then turning to snag a 4th gen that is still mint.
unforutunately mine is too old and has too many miles to make a profit. might be trading mine for an 03 tundra trd 4x4. :thumb3: will see what happens
