Well...the unthinkable happened today in my S/C 4Runner. Went to pass a truck and had no power. Pulled over thinking I had thrown a belt since I lost my power steering, and found the main crank/dampener pulley resting against the fan shroud. Apparently the bolt came loose, and in the process sheared the woodruff key down and shaved the crank down to the point to where there is no place to even insert a woodruff key anymore. Woe is me...woe is me. Minimum, looking at a new crank. Might as well go ahead and replace the entire long block if I'm going to go that far into it. Engine still ran great and unbelievably fast with the supercharger at 217,000 miles. Shame it had to go over something so minor. Can't think of any other way around it.

Remove the oil pan and replace the crank having roughly about the same mileage as yours.
You should be OK.

We did this to a Galant 2002 back in 2011 and it still runs fine.

I would have to pay someone to do that. At 216,000 miles I would think it would be wise to go ahead and rebuild the engine. Did you do it yourself, or did you pay someone? Cost? The timing belt and water pump have both been done on the engine I have.

Got pics?

I have to ask who changed the TB/H20 pump last? I'd have some harsh words for them to say the least.

yeah I'd want to have words with that person as well but what I really want pics of is how Nissan got the crank out by removing the oil pan!!!!

Sucks man.

But you can absolutely pull the crank by dropping the pan (and trans) and leaving the motor in. But I agree, rebuild the motor at this point, especially with it being supercharged.

I have the paperwork of the shop that put it in. Bad thing though, I just bought this 4Runner back in March and the previous owner had the work done. I've only put 500 miles on it since I bought it. Wa wa wa waaaa...

Sorry PBR, my comment wasn't directed at you. I was answering Kidvermicious' comment about my comment about nissanh's comment.... lol

With it having a supercharger its possible something happened to the supercharger seizing it up. Which may have done the damage. Or...............
Or...............

That really sucks, shops never bother to fix them right. They just zip them on with a gun and call it good. Then a few months later its worked itself loose, and they say "too bad, so sad no warranty!"

Remember everyone, 218ft lbs!!!

kball@. All good man, no harm no foul. OP, if it makes you feel any better, when I was in college (my alma mater won in 4OT tonight) I had a '90 Maxima SE with a little over 100K on it. Bought it off some homeboy that turned too tight on a high curb, he creased the lower RR door and tore the RR suspension out of it. Bought it for $300, got junkyard suspension and then I was all set. Or so I thought. He had a TB done it right before he tore it up. I was driving it home and same thing happen, jumped on it and the crank pulley hopped off the end of the crank, chew it all up. Wound up welding it back on and drove it for quite a while longer. Totally Jerry rig job but it worked.

However, in your case, I'd suggest you fix it correctly.

No, it still turns freely by hand. I took the bolt out of the crank pulley by hand.
