1 Month Anniversary for My T4R...Get Rear-Ended

So I just bought my 2006 T4R SR5 4X4 exactly 4 weeks ago. Today, on my way to work, I came to a complete stop at a red light. Next thing I know, a small Hyundai behind me skids into my 4Runner (it was lightly raining out, and about 40 degress). The driver, a very attractive 23 year old, couldn't have been going more than 5 mph. So I immediately call the police, and I get out to inspect the damage. Turns out her license plate and her bumper hit my tow-hitch head on. It really didn't do anything to her car. A few scuffs and her license plate holder is a little banged up. The rubber insert that fits into my hitch got a little bruised up, nothing major. The officer showed up and we decided not to file a police report because of the very minimal damage and we were both on our way. We both exchanged information and she offered to pay for a new rubber insert (I don't know what they're called). I told her it couldn't be that much and to not worry about buying me one. Was I in the wrong here for not filing a report? Everything seems fine with my truck. I visually inspected the bumper, hitch, and underneath the truck. No nicks, dings, or dents. It is very sturdy and strong, so I am assuming everything will be alright. What do you guys think?

Nothing to worry about. I doubt there's any damage at all, especially if she hit the hitch as you described.

You should have asked her to buy you a new rubber.....nevermind, I'm not even going to go there! LOL

I'm sure you're fine by not filing a report. I doubt that any damage beyond what you described had occurred. That is the strongest part of the vehicle and probably could have taken a lot more impact without causing any structural damage. If both parties have insurance and no one is injured, exchanging information is usually enough.

It sucks to hear you got in fender bender just after getting your ride. Good news is that is doesn't sound like any damage occured beyond a plastic tow hitch cover.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. It's good to hear fellow 4Runner owners say that I'll be fine. My dad was giving me all kinds of crap by saying that I should have filed the report anyway just in case something happens down the road. But it was such a minor accident and she was going very slow. And she hit my hitch dead on. Plus, she was just too darn good looking. If worse comes to worse, she gave me two numbers to contact her. I could always call her and see if she would like to go with Even Steven's plan:awais:

hahahahha, well I asked if she would strip down and pose next to the damaged hitch cover, but she failed to oblige. I'll see what I can do if it comes down to me having to give her a call for any kind of reason or another.

Stories like this are what made me decide to be an ass and put the hitch and ball onto my mount. In case a slow moving car bumps into me like that.

And I only hit my shin on it once! lol. I'm used to it now though.

I actually like how it looks anyways. The chrome/black hitch goes good with my black truck with chrome grill nd silver T4R.ORG stickers.

Plus it's just in hopes the the person who hits me is in a car and will get their front jacked up rather than my rear getting damaged as much. Granted it will only work in minor collisions.

Well when they dropped my truck off at my house, the ball mount/receiver was in the back of my 4runner inside of a box. The ball itself was 14.99 or 19.99 at pepboys. If you have to buy the receiver AND the ball, probably $30.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. That's probably the route I am going to go. I have been searching online for the OEM hitch cover and can't seem to come up with one. Might as well get what you have.
