1" Spacer Lift

I purchased a set of 1/2" spacers from Jason Burtman and have installed them on the front only. 1/2" spacers actually lift the vehicle 1". It's difficult to explain how it works but there are multiple threads on here that can explain better then I. Ultimately, I was wanting to level out my T4R, similar to how the generation 3's come stock. I took some measurements before having the spacers installed and then again after it got back from the shop.

The biggest difference is that adding the spacers gave me about 1 1/4" more ground clearence under the front bumper. I measured the drivers side and passenger side wheel well, from the rubber to the fender, and gained nearly 1" exactly on each side. Before installing the spacers, I measured the tube steps on each side and noted that there was about a 1" difference from front to back. The front obviously being lower. After installing the spacers, the gap from front to back on each side went down to just under 1/2".

Driving the vehicle feels almost exactly the same. You can tell that it's a little bit taller when you get into it and it also seems bigger when you drive it.

Ultimately, I love the way it looks! It's amazing how a 1" lift in the front can make it look so much better. The nose still points down slightly so I wonder if adding a 1 1/2" lift would have made it exactly level. That would have meant 3/4" spacers. Either way, I like it now and would highly recommend it to anybody wanting to slightly enhance their stock 4Runner. Jason Burtmans product and service was excellent just like everyone had told me it would be.

WOW and that is with 1/2" spacers. Sounds like 1" would be to much if your not doing anything to the back or maybe not to much but would be totally level , I prefer what you did.

I think it looks perfect !! Did you get an alignment ?
Do you think you will have to adjust headlights ?

Now as soon as those bigger tire go on .....:D by the way the size you need is 265/70/17 ..... lol

How much for the install ?
 
Yeah, I love the way it looks. The photos don't really do it justice. It's amazing how much cockier it looks now. It's like having a new vehicle all over again.

Yeah, I did get an allignment and it cost about $50. The place I had install my spacers charged me a flat $150. So, I ended up paying just over $200 after taxes.

As far as the head lights, nobody is flashing me yet so I don't think I'm going to bother adjusting them. I would like to get some new tires though and that size is what I'm aiming for. It will probalby be awhile now since I just found out that I'll be paying in this year for taxes. That sucks!

Install

Actually, I ran into a guy who has a Land Cruiser and could see that it had been lifted. So I struck up a conversation with him and he told me that he added a 2" spacer lift to all four wheels. It looked good too. Anyway, I explain that I'm wanting to do the same thing but only on the front. He told me to go to a place here in Wichita, KS called Atlas Spring & Axle and ask for Paul. So, I did.

Paul looked at it and told me that it should be pretty easy. He had it installed a few hours after I got it to him. He did well enough for my brother to take his '07 FJ over there to get an estimate on a 3" suspension lift.

All in all, it was a pretty good experience.
 
how much were the spacers? And do you have any more pics. I really want to do this but can't decide on the 1/2" or the 3/4".
 
Spacers

The spacers that I purchased were $149 and I do have a lot more photos but you can't see much of the lift. Their are alot of the back end and stuff. I'll try to take some more photos of the front and side in an open parking lot somewhere so that you can get a better look.

My opinion on the 3/4" spacers is that it would make the gap between the fender and tire look better, because it would be bigger. I do, however, believe that the extra half inch lift that the 3/4" spacers would give you might make the nerf bars look like they are pointing slightly upwards. If that's ok with you, then you'll be fine.

The website where I purchased the spacers was www.burtmanindustries.com

They're not advertised because they have to be custome ordered. You'll have to get the phone number off the website and then call and ask for Jason. He can set you up with what you need.

We don't call those 1/2 spacers. If you call me and say you want a 1" lift, you will get what deputy92 has on his truck.

Now, to make this less confusing, we only advertise the lifts by HOW MUCH lift they give... SO, if you want a 1" lift in the front, the spacers is actually .5 inches thick. Because of the arrangement of the front coilspring/shock assembly in relation to the a-arms the coilspring acts in a manner similar to a lever. In this manner the height of the spacer is right at 1/2 of the thickness of the height it gives you when installed. I hope this helps explain it.

In compairison, say you wanted a 3" front lift, (the spacers thickess are 1.5 inches total thickness), but again, our lift sizes are listed by the amount of lift that they give, not the thickness of the spacer.

deputy92: Is your 4runner a V6? Reason I ask is in theory I would think you might just get a little more lift out of the same spacer with a V6 since its about 200lbs less than the V8. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong since there might be something else in the suspension that makes up for the weight difference in the two engines. Looks good by the way! I think the V8 spring rates are heavier to compensate for the the heavier motor..... so I was told.
