My tire dealer can get Hankook TF10's in a 275/70-17 but they are 10 ply. Am I ok with 10 ply or not? I think they weigjt about 57lbs

I just put Goodyear MT/R's on mine in LT 275/70r17 load range E and I love the way they ride at 35psi. E load range stiffens up the ride a little but overall it doesn't lessen my driving experience. my speakers get more use though, as they're louder than what Ive been accustomed to.

I installed e-rated tires on my 2013 Frontier Pro-4X. Sounded good in theory. Like you mention, though, they're roughly 20 lbs. heavier each.

That extra un-sprung, rolling weight slaughters the gas mileage, increases brake distances, and makes the ride much rougher.

If you don't need the extra load capacity, my $.02 is that they're not worth it.

I put an E range on my girls Wrangler she had, I like the stiffer ride and they handle better for it but you feel the weight difference in performance and at the pump. Not much but enough to tell.

Do you notice the extra weight?

TireRack lists my tires at 57 lbs, and I can feel the weight when accelerating. With that being said, running the Bridgestone stockers I was averaging 19.5mpg mixed, we get some gnarly traffic in the PDX area, and I'm on the third full tank averaging 18.3mpg at the pump. I have a hefty lead foot too. I wouldn't change anything, I got the looks and performance I was aiming for. And let's be honest, we didn't get our rigs for the fuel economy

If you don't need them, don't get them.

If you like your current softish comfy ride, don't get them.

If you care about MPG, don't get them

If you want them, get them.

Lastly, that's a heavy ass tire. Stock Duelers are 39lbs. You will feel the difference.

I just put that size Cooper AT3 on my 4th gen. Ordered through Tread Depot dot com with a promotional offer and installed at NTB. Total was less than $650 including shipping and NTB's installation.

Used e-rated Cooper ATRs on an Avalanche 2500 in the past and got great life out of them even with infrequent rotations (but a good alignment).

I have ran pretty much every type and ply offered throughout my 36 years of driving. I only run P rated now.

If I lived in the desert with lots of sharp rocks and thorns then I would run C rated so I would be more comfortable with low pressures. Never again E for me as there are too many cons and not enough pros. Never mind I had to get a tire patched yesterday after running over a nice socket head cap screw. I would rather get a patch once in a blue moon than never get a patch and suffer 60K miles of inefficiency and hard ride.

I run heavy E MT for a reason. If I didn't need the beef, I'd save the dough and wear 'n tare. If You need them, you usually know. If you go in sharp granite, spiky thorns etc... get them. Who cares what your gas mileage hit is if you need it. If you don't, you'll pay in more ways than one.

Sold! Ordered 275/70-17 6 ply Destination A/T's. Not as aggressive as I would have liked but my tire shop was ltd on what they could get in a 6 ply. Really wanted to use them because they would credit me for my stock tires.
