10k mile service, have question

I am due for the 10k service and know they will rotate tires and do oil change but will they balance for free? I have a slight vibration.

Also, I will ask them to change the setting for the auto headlights, mother seem to stay on excessively.

What about wiper blades, they are 10 mos and 10k miles old, will they replace these for free or do I need to ask? Or pay?

The only other thing is the radio. For some reason, when I adjust the base, treble and mid for a station, it doesn't always remain where I put it, I find that it goes back to the middle. Anyone else experience this?

I think everything else is working properly but if there is something you know that I should tell them about, pls advise. Thank you

Ps. Wish they could fix the rough ride. The limited 4wd sure looks good but damn, this thing is harsh

I waited 2 hours to have them tell me that they were done, and all they did was rotate the tires.

Yep...my wife waited for 3 hrs for the 5K service - tire rotation only and that was with a confirmed appointment.

My guess is they were bumping customer-pay work.

State the problem to your service consultant, he will make a note to the technician who will test drive the vehicle and decide if it is a wheel balance issue or something else. If they find nothing, you can request a test drive with the technician so you can point out the problem as it is occurring, if it happens.

I don't quite get your complaint here... You don't like that the Auto-Headlight system turns itself on when it feels like it needs to? Why not just turn it out of AUTO setting? It's not an all or nothing thing, those solar sensors can be a bit sensitive...I don't even remember if there's a calibration or adjustment for them (perhaps through the "Vehicle" Setting on the headunit if it has it..) The owner's manual should let you know if you can adjust the settings on the Auto Headlights system.

Also are you sure its the headlights being turned on and not just the DRLs staying on?

As for your complaint with the radio, can't say I have come across that yet. Did you check the Audio/Visual section of the Owner's Manual and Radio Manual that came with the vehicle? There's some odd settings that will adjust stuff automatically if I remember right.

Honestly that doesn't surprise me. We get slammed on Saturdays by everyone and their mother who wants an oil change or free service done. Depending on how many oil changers (because as was stated above, most of the time it's the Lube Techs that do those services not Certified or higher level Technicians at the dealership) and when the service writers wrote your due out time (assuming they didn't just write 12+ people who showed up at 09:00 for 10:00 due out time) you might be waiting quite a while. It's not uncommon for our Saturdays to get overbooked and backed up on the oil changes. So I'm not surprised to hear that happening at other dealers.

Headlights...surprised you aren't familar with this as a tech. The only reason I mention is bc I read here that there are multiple codes that can be used to adjust many things including how long the lights stay on. My last vehicle was easily adj but me but the Toyota needs a simple code change by the dealership.

my questions and expectations above are based on experiences with domestic dealerships. I found them to be overly accommodating when a customer expresses and issue. For example, at one point years ago I was feeling a slight pulse from the brakes at 15000 miles or so, prob a warped rotor and they performed a complete new brake job under warranty, well beyond anything I would have expected. Hate to hear all the negative views on the board as it relates to the dealerships but my first experience was terrific, as was the buying process we will see how the second one goes.

And re Saturday, there is no chance I'm sitting in there on a Saturday, of course it's backed up. Take my computer and phone so I can work from the dealership, which happens to be very nice

Truthfully, there is no answer we can provide as to how your particular dealer is going to behave.

As to the rough ride; I'll beat 1engineer to saying "did you test drive?"

As for your radio, do you know that each input of radio has its own EQ settings? Meaning when you listen to an XM station, the EQ settings you set for XM will apply. When you change to an FM station, it will bring up those EQ settings. You might want to make sure you have the desired settings set for each input.

Different models have different "Customize" options, not all Toyotas have the same features. i.e. The New Avalons allow you to activate the option to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof when holding the "Unlock" button, while most of our other models do not.

I don't understand your complaint in regards to the Automatic Headlight function. Though I'm thinking we're talking about two separate functions based on "how long the lights stay on"; because the Auto Headlight function is not on a timer, it uses a sensor to determine when there is a low light condition and automatically turns the headlights on when the Headlight switch is in the "AUTO" position.

The other reason I mentioned the Owner's Manual is because now most of our models have a healthy amount of "Customize" options available through the "Vehicle" setting in the Entune Headunits. So things like "Flash the Headlights when Unlocking/Locking" or "Turn off the Headlights after X amount of time after locking vehicle" can be selected by the customer". I regularly don't even bother getting the scantool for most of the new cars and show the customer how to adjust these settings in the drive as well as reference the pages in the owner's manual so they can read up on the various options and settings a customer can choose. There's also a section that shows what options need to be done by a dealer.

Lol, of course i did but until you live with something you dont always fully appreciate what you got. Ask america, divorce rates are 50%. Fortunately, i did better on that test ride than on the limited. That suspension can really give you a beating on certain roads.

Replacing the wagon wheels with 17" wheels/tires with more sidewall would probably help.

I had my '15 in for the 15k service last Friday. Balancing was $29.99. Rotation was no charge. At 10k I had a rotation and oil change and had them disable the seatbelt reminder chime and that was all no charge.
