115 volt AC Power Outlet

I test drove a V6 Limited 4X4 with the 115 volt AC Power outlet, and really liked the feature. I'm a digital photojournalist, so the ability to recharge low batteries between assignments is very appealing. There was a button down near my left knee that engaged an outlet in the center console. I would be able to place a spare battery charger in the center console, and hide it away during travel.

I ended up going with a V6 Sport 4x4, and the dealer said that the 115v AC outlet is a factory add-on, which could not be done at the dealer.

I'm aware of the cigarette lighter solutions for this kind of stuff, but I really liked the convenience of the setup on the Limited that I test drove. I would assume that all the wiring is there for the outlet, and it's just a matter of buying the parts to install it. Does anyone know if this is possible? Can I order the necessary parts from Toyota? Has anyone tried this? Thanks!

For an OEM job, you'd need the inverter module, the switch, the outlet and short stub of wire attaching it to the harness under your center console, and a new center console box (one with a hole for the outlet). It's going to cost you over $500 for all of that assuming you can get the parts at a good price.

For me, the economics of the OEM look just didn't pay off, in this case. A decent 200-300W inverter will only run you $50. You can just plug it into the lighter for low current drawing devices (~100W or less) and hook it strait to your battery if you want to power a flood light, stove, or some other high current stuff.

I'm still debating if I will permanently mount the inverter or not. I'm just not too keen on the idea of having those high voltage lines running around the truck.

A couple of weeks ago, I did exactly what you said. My digital camera batteries died on a weekend outing so I plugged the 12V to AC converter in the rear cigarette lighter plug and plugged my battery charge into it. A while later, my camera was back in action.

I'm not pleased with the location of the front 12V cigarette adaptor. I'm going to install another 12V adaptor somewhere under the dash direct to the battery (with in-line fuse) to try and free up some wires (GPS, Radar detector, Cell charger, etc).
 
The big problem is neither outlet is on when the car is off! Lame.

I added an inverter in the arm rest with a live wire to the batt. works great, and doesn't really take any room. Actually i wired a cig socket facing upwards in the arm rest. I velcro'd the inverter in that compartment as well. when i need the inverter, i plug it into the socket. Else, it serves to power my other 12v needs. Love it.
Now i can charge what ever i want, it is hidden in the arm rest while i'm away from the 4R, and out of site.

I'm confused about how your cig socket setup!

My arm rest's compartment doesn't have the cig socket. Does it come with the AC converter? and then how do you wire the cig socket? to where?:confused:

Sorry kglueck, I still don't get it. I am real slow about this.

Tell me if I am corrected or not:

AC Converter will be plug into cig socket, then the cig socket will be connected to the 12V outlet right?

If yes, since there is no hole from arm rest's compartment to 12V outlet compartment, Rensho have to connect the wire over the top of the arm rest's compartment, then connect it to the 12V outlet.

He added the extra cig socket inside his box. You're correct, there isn't a factory hole there. Based on the picture, I don't see a wire draped over the top of the box so I think we can safely infer that he drilled/cut a hole inside the box to wire up his extra socket. Since the hole is not visible, it's probably also reasonable to assume that it's behind the socket. In all, it looks like he did this quite cleanly.

Also, he said he wired the new socket directly to the battery. It IS NOT attached to the factory socket or circuit. The factory sockets are powered only when the ACC circuit is on (i.e. key is in the ACC or ON position). His is ALWAYS on, regardless of the key position.

Given that he now has an always on socket inside his console box, he can now enable/disable his 115V inverter by simply plugging/unplugging it.

2005 4runner

Does anyone know if the 2005 toyota 4runner sport and the 2007 limited have the same wiringharness they are both the v8 4.7 i bought the 2007 115v out of a 4runner and want to make sure the wiring is in my 2005 sport edition
 
You can plug and play install all you need is to find a Wrecked limited that is being parted I got a 2007 v8 sport and my buddy Joshua Beletz sells parts for a decent price there is a empty relay slot in the bottom left of the fuse pannel in the engine bay you will need to fill the switch wiring is folded in the dash next to the center transfercase lock and the module the wiring is setup for the module in the back driver quarter pannel in the cargo bay and the 115v plug you Can mount it in your original floor console if you want to just cut the whole or get the console from the rig your taking the parts from on the sport models there plug and play for all the wiring I did a tiktok video on it yesterday..
