12v Power Supply (cigarette lighter) Mod - 3 way with pics!

I found a 3 way (:D) 12v power supply that works perfect in my 4R!

It is the "Wagan EL9794 12V 3 Way Socket with Battery Analysis" off amazon for $9.94 + shipping.

It has a long cable (way longer than needed) that plugs into the 12v outlet in the dash, the unit itself fits perfectly into the little 'shelf' below the 12v outlet. Actually there is space to spare, that is where the extra cable is tucked away. I am sure those who like taking part the dash could run the wire direct to the plug on the back side and keep the unit in the same place, giving you 4 full 12v outlets for your access! As always, threads like this are worthless without pics so here you go....

I'm sure there are a lot of makers out there, some might even fit a little better, but this works perfect for me, so I thought I would share!

Nice! I am kind of bummed that my center console does not include a cigarette power socket (though the other plug is nice to have in there). I am considering wiring in one of the adapters like you have off the socket in the dash and into the center console. I did this on my 2005 4runner and it was nice to be able to charge my cell phone but be able to keep it out of the way while driving.

Probably because one of those 12v plugs is for a GPS, but it is for a handheld GPS that takes Road, Marine, & Topo maps. Still though you would need 2, one for the cell and the other for the radar, the LE does not have a built in cell charger nor a built in radar detector, and if you wanted to run another 12v item, well then you are back to 3, just like me...hey I'm a poet...and don't even know it!
 
I also found a surprisingly well made triple socket and 2 USB power port on Amazon. I wired it from behind the center console socket into the center storage and mounted it onto that little plastic divider insert. Takes a bit of room inside the console but keeps everything out of the way.

I thought all 4Runners had the 12v socket in both center and in the glove box? I could be mistaken. I use the 12v in the glovebox to run my radar and I use the 110 outlet in the console to charge my phone. I know not all models have the 110 but I thought all of them had a 12v in the glovebox, center console, and in the rear. Since I haven't seen a trail/SR5, I'm not sure but the mod is cool. I don't own a 12v charger for my iphone, so I either use the 110 or usb but I can see how this mod would be great for those without those options. I miss my multichange holder in my 4th gen, the change thing in the 5th gen only holds quarters. boo toyota. lol.

Can you describe how you took the paneling apart to get to the center console? I am interested in doing this myself, but dont have any idea how to begin taking it all apart.

If you are talking about the plastic around the shift, 4wd selector, cup holder area, it is simple. Just spin the knobs off of the shifters and then pull n pray :biggrin2: nothing but plastic clips holding it in. The worst you will do is break a clip (highly unlikely).
 
Fair enough. Does the pre-existing cigarette outlet line run through the center (shifter) area or is it all tucked up behind the dash?

Also, it's nice to have an extra outlet for a rear seat DVD for the kids ...

Just curious... do those LED lights stay on or off after the ignition is turned off?
