14" TE guys weird noise

I have a 14 Trail premium and it has made a thunking noise on left hand turns since day one. 4000 mile later it now makes the noise when going straight as well. It is the loudest when I initiate a left hand turn when going down a hill. The truck is lifted but the noise was there from day one. My front drive shaft is the only thing I can find with any play that makes a thunking noise. The noise come from the front shaft/front diff location. I need to attempt to replicate the sound in 4wd. I am no real mechanic but that is the only other guess I have other than the KDSS cylinders.
 
Mine is 1/14 with 2000 miles on it. I've never heard the noise. I tried to replicate it on curb, only noise i heard sounded like pressurized oil to initiate flow in a cylinder but no rattle or funny unusual noise from the front suspension system. And it was the first time I heard it. Took this to mother nature two times and never got any problem what so ever.
 
Hey, first post but been following this forum for a while. Add mine to the list... My '13 trail with nav/kdss has the same front end clunk. Definitely coming from front driver side and only on hard left turn/bump combo. Very noticeable with vibration in the steering wheel. Sounds and feels as though suspension parts are contacting each other.

2 different local dealerships and independent mechanic both say everything looks good.

I have a Toytec Ultimate lift/TC UCA's and stock size BFG TA's on stock wheels.

Build date is 4/13.

Looking forward to a solution but sounds like it might be something i have to get used to. Sucks.

Hmmm. I've never felt a vibration in the steering wheel. I hear it taking left turns, but it can't be felt through the steering wheel.
 
Huh, mine's an audible "clunk" mostly but when it happens it does resonate somewhat through the steering column. Maybe "feedback" is more a more accurate term than "vibration".

From day one, bone stock, I've noticed a lot more small vibrations in the steering of this truck than i expected it to have.

By comparison, my previous '00 t4r SR5 with OME lift felt very damp and tight in the steering--even with close to 200k on it. Dealer told me it's because the old one had hydraulic steering and the new ones are all electric. I have no idea if that's true or not.
 
Kdss noise

Hi guys

I am writing from Poland and I am not a 4runner owner but I am having exactly the same KDSS issue with my new 2014 Land Cruiser 150(Prado) so I wanted to share with you some infos.
When turning left I can hear lousy noises from suspension (usually somewhere from the rear left), everything is perfect when turning right. I could experience this from the very beginning (I purchased a new vehicle) but I thought it was something in the trunk or tires.
At 800km on the odo I reported the problem to my toyota dealer, they just switched off (took out a power plug) The KDSS and everything was perfect.
So they exchanged the rear cilinder for a new one and after switching the KDSS on, the problem again came to life.
I found a lot of similar complaints in Russia and Ukraine where new models had been available a few months earlier than in Poland.
Generally the service is not able to fix the problem as this is a factory fault, so they've reported that to the factory and I am waiting for a solution... So there is definately a factory problem and bug from Toyota...
Just wanted to share this with you.
 
I read this thread a while back and thought I did not have the sound..............But now at 5k miles and I started noticing the thunk in the KDSS (driver side) around 3800-4000 miles. Mostly over speed bumps or exiting out of a driveway that angles down. I believe the noise is happening when the sway bar articulates with the suspension and initiates the KDSS.
 
I now have 1,200 miles on the truck and the issue is still there but the other day I got under it and tightened up all the bolts involving the kdss and it quieted up a bit. Its not gone but it doesn't rattle as much which is better.
 
Kdss update info

The newest update regarding the problem with the Kdss in my Land cruiser 150 2014 (Prado). My Toyota service called me with information that they would change both Kdss cylinders for a model from the previous LC 150 version. They said this would probably solve the problem of weird noises when turning (as the new Kdss has redesigned cylinders). I am on my holidays now so I expect have it done in August and will update whether this have solved the problem.
Anyway the service has received a green light from Toyota to do this so it seems that the manufacturer is aware of the problem.
 
mine that had the issue before has mysteriously quieted down to where its either gone or so quiet its not noticable. i now have almost 15k on the odo.
 
I haven't experienced any strange sounds yet when turning. 2.4k miles on the car.

Maybe I just don't know what sounds to look out for lol. Is it loud? Barely audible? Windows have to be up/down to hear it?
