'16 TEP heater issue

Turn on the heater and hear a "ticking" sort of noise. This was not present until a week or two ago (at least from what I remember over the last few months). Heat generated but a burning smell emanated too. Tried different settings and noise remains with a soft "burnt" smell. Just once, with the heater on a couple of minutes; saw a bunch of warning lights flash for a few seconds on the dashboard. Didn't happen again after that though.

Am suspecting a short somewhere - any ideas what I should be looking for or working out the problem? Hoping it just goes away but as it has not over the last few weeks am getting a bit concerned. Trying to avoid starting a fire..! Thanks..

could be the blower motor. remove filter see if it works properly..

blower motor resistors could be burned up due to a bad motor...

if you use the max blower speed often it is a common problem for the motor to crap out. some stated 4 motors replaced.

Sounds a likely candidate. Not sure where the filter would be to the blower - any links or like to where that would be?

the air filter is behind the glove box. open the glove box door and you will see a removable black plastic . that will pop out then a white plastic piece that is the part that locks in the filter. remove that . then the filter slides out ,, now you will see the fan .. start up the blower at slow speed see if it rotates then slowly increase speed see if its increasing ..let it run a while or after using the vehicle open it up after a good amount of use see if it is still working..

on my 2016 the OEM filter IMO is poor quality . I now in area of sand and found that this filter does not do the job as dust blows thru this crappy air filter. I got a wix charcoal filter . so far no dust passing thru . 5K miles on vehicle.
