1984 4runner build

Yeah sure, with a granny trans behind a small block Ford. Completely and utterly different situation. :)

auto trans. very high first gear.

but that's not the point.

the situation is the same, I wouldn't want to HAVE to use double low EVERY time I shifted to low range. doesn't matter what engine, or transmission I have.

Auto vs. manual is a whole different argument and I'm not intending to debate which is better in CAN-03runner's build thread, I'm just saying that if you aren't running an auto trans with 250+ hp in front of it, double low (and beyond) becomes a lot more attractive. Oodles of power and a torque converter make a huge difference in what kind of gearing you need to be able to idle up stuff.

Bolt on rock sliders.

I haven't installed my rock sliders because they are weld on. It's illegal where I'm at and I know people who have gotten their trucks impounded and deemed illegal for road use unless they replaced the frame. Canadakstan. That's how we roll.

I have a body lift, that I intend on removing. It was for a drive train lift that isn't happening either. I'll just raise the gas tank into the bed and cover it. and install a flat cross member skid plate a la budbuilt style.

If I create some brackets like the google provided attached picture. Without the body lift, how much clearance is there between the frame and body on a stock 1st gen truck. Can you slide your fingers across. If yes I would think a bolt can be pushed through too.
