1991 toyota 4runner electrical issues!!! HELP?

I have a 1991 toyota 4runner manual tranny. for some odd reason the positive feed wire that goes to the starter decided to heat up and it eventually melted. prior to all this, the bottom starter bolt broke off so the teeth of the starter and fly wheel weren't matching up. i decided to try to take out the starter but failed. i attached everything back together and tried to start her up again(maybe something i shouldn't have done?). after a few turns into the ignition, that was when the wires decided to melt. now, the car has no power, no dash lights, head lights, nothing works. i have 2 fairly new batteries and i have tried them both at full charge. i also checked all the fuses and everything looked good. the connecters would spark up a bit though if i touched them with the battery terminals.. help?
