1995 4runner 4wd not engaging

Problem solved, maybe.

I followed NorCal 4Runner's instructions and swapped the vacuum hoses. Now the 4 x 4 light stays on and the 4 x 4 works when it is selected and doesn't when it is diselected. Before there was just a click or two and the light flickered; no 4 x 4. Should I asume the machic accidental mixed them up? He left several vacuum hoses off and minor nuts and bolts here and there (no I won't be using him again).

'95 4WD question

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread but it's exactly on point with my question.

I'm very new to 4Runners, I was a Subaru driver till my friend crashed it for me, now I share my girlfriend's '95 automatic 4Runner and I'm a convert!

So I see gears L & 2, are these the 4WD? I'm also not getting a 4WD light on the dash when I use these gears. Do I need to drive in them for a while before it engages?

So far I've only attempted them on short distances.

No, L & 2 would be the transmission gear selection, there should be another shift selector to the left of that one that is the transfer case. If you don't have two shifters then you have a 2wd runner.

Oh yeah I forgot to post the rest of it. (Wife was bugging me about something ) On A.D.D. cars, if you don't drive in 4wd often, sometimes the hubs will not lube itself and it will not engage. When you switch the little vaccuum hoses underneath the front diff, you are manually engaging 4wd... of course you would want to switch the hoses back after you've driving in 4wd for a while. That did the trick for me but I'm not sure if it's different for automatic 4runners.

I'm having the same problem except in an automatic, on top of that I also have a code 42 which may be the speedo cable my speedometer is dead, it's probably the cable

I found a wire harness disconnected under my dash I'ma take a pic of it can someone help me identify where it may go?

The 4WD on my 93' wasn't engaging and it turned out to be that the wiring down there had been disconnected / severed. A strange revelation but relatively quick fix.

Push voltage to the actuator manually
