1996 to 2001 parts

Hi all,

New guy here and I am just wondering if the parts from a 2001 T4R are compatible on a 1996. I am looking to replace the rear lift gate as mine is rather rusted and damaged along with the 3 piece rear bumper.

Bumper is the same. Lift gate is the same EXCEPT the wiring.

How much of a change are we talking? As I am not sure there should be a plug in for the inside of the rubber wiring tube. Are they completely different?

I am just wondering if this is a big job that will be difficult or simple enough moving wires to different wires.

Sorry for the late response, I am not 100% sure because I have a 97 and have never done the swap but im sure other can chime in...

Never done this on my 3rd gen, but read that other owners that done the job had to swap all the wires from the old to the new shell. I've done it on Landcruisers before and not hard to do.

That is perfect cause I am looking at buying a new lift gate cause mine is in bad shape.

I will just open her up and check out the insides lol.

Those are completely different BackDoor ECU's. So yes, you will have to keep all your original wiring plus the ECU.

Ok so I will just take out of one and put it into the other. That isn't to bad but as long as it all fits I'm good with it.
