1998 rear end swap

Purchased a 1998 4runner limited a few weeks back, Have had nothing but issues with the brakes. The rear drum brakes are rubbing shoes against drums, on one side the drum does not even want to go on. Everything has been replaced wheel cylinder included.

After talking with a few mechanic friends, we have come to the conclusion that the rear end might have been swapped. I really do not want to swap the entire rear end, is it possible to replace the back plate that the wheel cylinder is attached to?

Any other ideas on a possible fix?

Were you able to retract the shoes by rotating the center adjustment knob? I would think that if you cannot, then that's what you need to figure out first. I don't see why you need to swap out the rear end, worst case would be all the brake components(?)

I spent last night doing research, all the way from a 94 to past 2000 all the 4runners I found take the same brake shoes.

To fix my issue, (I do not recommend this) I filed down the contact points a little so the drum fits on. The brakes adjusted quickly and everything seems to be working great now.

All I have left to do is new tires all the way around, new radio, and new struts. I will most likely replace all the bushings on the front end also. I cant wait to get everything complete
