Well, I was in fact too sore to do the front swap today, so I pulled the front drive shaft, and took the rig for a spin on the 5:29s....Man! the juice was so worth the squeeze.

Here's a couple of completely unrelated pics of the lighting situation.

with park lights on...

with all on...

So, did you wake up this morning feeling sore, not wanting to move?? But then you remembered you still need to finish working on your 4Runner...suddenly you jumped out of bed like it was Christmas morning!! With crazy excitement, anticipation and adrenaline you ran outside and knocked out the front diff swap in record time...and now your all done?!? Right....No?? And you call yourself a 4Runner owner and lover!! Whatever....Well, I guess we'll have to wait until next week...huh?!? Lol..J/J!!!

Seriously, I hope you can recoup through the week so you can get out there and finish next weekend !!

Good Juck,
-Russel

Yep, just like that except when I jumped up to run outside my back said
"Oh Hell No You Don't"
No worries though, I'll for sure get it done this Saturday or Sunday...

Wow, great build. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of gas mileage were you getting before the gear swap?

Keeping in mind that my daily drive is probably the worst case scenario, I almost always let the truck idle for 5 minutes before I go anywhere, then it's up and down hills in stop and go conditions, And I got a lead foot to boot. The trans always shifted up way to soon for my taste, and I was always lugging the engine with more throttle. I was getting around 15-16 MPG, which is still awesome considering the supercharged 3.4 was getting 12-13. I kind of feel that will actually get better with the gear swap as I don't do much highway driving and I can tell I'm using much less throttle in normal conditions. The truck now leaves the stop lights and accelerates effortlessly...

Got to love the 1UZ. There is a guy I work with who got an LS400 from his father and it is still as smooth as silk at 314,xxx miles.

Still have the Lexus body?

I agree smooth as silk...but Sound Wicked with an exhaust!

Yeah, I still got the lex body, I was going to part it out on clublexus, but there's a Nazi moderator in league with a couple junk yard sponsors who wont let anyone part out a car on their forum unless said person has over 500 useless posts. Doesn't matter that I've been a member there for over 5 years...Although, I'm welcome to sell the car as a whole to one of the junkers for like 300.00 so they can part it out on clublexus for a tidy profit...I tell ya, that's some shady underhanded $H!T...A Moderator taking advantage of the forum members...:wtf:

Sorry, still a sore subject...

wow. That's crap. I'll have some of my students get "extra credit" for padding your post count if you want. Well that probably wouldn't work.

Any way you could have someone with more posts create thread for the part out?

That's underhanded as hell. The 5 years that you've been a member should account for something.

Love my LS400, Like CL, HATE their classifieds rules.

Wow just read through your build and have to say awesome job
Always thought of stuffing a 2uz in my runner with a t56 since I am only 2wd

One question do you have a link to the lighted grill emblem you used? How do you like it?

Cant wait to see the final project getting beat on the trails!

Here's the link from the company I bought from...make sure to order the 11cm by 7.5 cm for the front. I had to massage the grill a little with a dremmel tool, then just connect the wires to the park light socket. I got a red one for the back but it's too big.

Well, that's what I thought, I pm'd the mod and said I thought it was unfair to the members, The guy actually pm'd me back and said that I was a nobody, a nothing, and if I had any thing to say about it he would delete my posts and ban me. to be fair though, I did tell him to f off! alas, the forum recognized my curse words and converted them to gibberish.

Did you ever consider using the Front sump lexus pan from the gs/ls? I see guys in OZ doing this swap and they never talk about a 2uz pan or a body lift. Is it the pan and exhaust alone that necessitate it?

I too may be interested in some mounts.

You might get away without a body lift, but 2" makes it lots easier, you won't have to bang the firewall for heads, bell housing, or exhaust clearance. also, when you set the engine and trans at the height you want, allowing proper clearances above, behind and below, the trans will sit a little higher. Really, it just gives you proper clearance all around the back and underside of the engine. I researched all available oil pan setups front mid and rear including custom ones. The 2uz pan is actually the most perfect fit of all the oil pan options if your running IFS as it was engineered by Toyota engineers to fit this engine in an IFS truck.

I may be interested in making a couple dozen sets...If people keep wanting them.

Why not just create another forum? You can't be in the minority on how members feel towards the moderator. That is nothing but crap, plain and simple.

You should sell the car body anyway, then I can get my IRS friend to come in and do an audit, since I highly doubt the guy reports capital gains on such transactions. It would probably be the last you would hear from them, maybe ever.

The rig looks stellar.

Makes sense, I know the guy who did the 2uz swap said the BL made it easier as well. I just like to keep COG as low as possible to suit my driving habits.

Did the engine placement necessitate the change in driveshaft length?

I didn't do any real cog tests, but I think it will be fine, especially if you go with the 1UZ as it's very lightweight for a V8. The overall dimensions of the 1UZ are a factor in the height of the trans but it's the larger bell housing, used to accommodate the larger torque convertor and longer input shaft, that actually moves the trans aft by ~2.5"

Interesting... all points I hadn't considered as no one seemed to have brought them up in the past. I'm still sorting out whether I want to go 2JZGTE to match the GS300 or 1UZ. I feel like the 1UZ offers dead reliability and initial cost advantage over the JZ at the cost of some power and torque. I guess the plot thickens.
