2-Way Radio Install into '14 TE/P?

Has anyone figured out a clean way of installing a 2-way radio into their TE/P? The center console is so tightly packed on the 2014s. I'm stumped.

I have remote mount kits for all my radios so the main bodies go under the seats like an amp would. The control heads are the hard part and I really don't want to make a mess out of it - it has to look professional.

I ran into the same problem with my Yaesu 857. It's mounted under the passenger seat and the faceplate is held by a Ram Mount on the windshield. Might not be professional looking enough for you though but it gets the job done.

Mine's a Cobra75ST so the whole body/head unit is not quite the same as with yours.

Installed my control head above the mirror and the base under the passenger seat as there's a perfect place where the unused factory XM box used to reside..... Post #356-Ham Install

As two people mentioned before, I have intalled the head unit above the rear view mirror with a suction mount to the windshield. I think it looked pretty good. and at least your not drilling any holes in the dash or center stack.

I'm a field engineer, mostly on public safety systems but some large area commercial stuff too. I have my ham ticket but never use it.

I really like your control head placement. One of the three radios I need to install is the same as yours, an IC-2820H. The magnets on the back of the head are useful.

How is the viewing angle on yours? Mine gets a little washed out if you're viewing it from too far above the head and the contrast setting doesn't help much.

The viewing angle is fine, but I really seriously considered a top dash mount immediately above the nav/AC vents just from a site plane view. Sometimes, traveling terrain and glancing down can be a PITA, but overall I am really happy with the way it turned out. I really like being able to close the little door behind the control panel. That is a great little spot for extra chargers, business cards, sure fire, etc. the rear mount for the head unit is great because I bolted right into the existing bolts back there. I put an external speaker on top of it which is a lot louder and provides for clearer audio under speed and over terrain.

The negative being that the forward cup holder is lost. With some further modification I could make it work but it might affect the viewing angle.
